Palatine with huge gains on screen passes. Easily averaging 10+ per screen

End of 1. Palatine gets away with a false start on a 4th and inches, but gets the 1st

QB keeper. One ref says he's short by a yard, the other TD...so TD called. 2pt conv good

Ball getting big chunks of yards this drive. Holding call puts Palatine at 3rd and 14 from the 18. Next play 18 yd bullet on the skinny post. TD PHS

Barrington opens up half with a big play, but it gets called back on a hold. Leads to the 1st punt of the night

Barrington scores from 25 yards out with their lineman 10 yards down field and a pass well past the line of scrimmage

These refs are starting to get a bit wild. Back judge with a blown call on what was clearly a catch and a 1st down. Palatine stalls and punts

Middle of Palatine's defense is SOFT. Barrington should be able to run the clock down a bunch here and score

Palatine returns kickoff to the 29. Backups in on offense. Sanchez still has starters in on D

Barrington player goes down, and now backups seem like they will start to be filtered in

Penalty after gives Palatine a short field and they kick the onside and recover. Starters back in

DPI and unsportsmanlike penalties on Barrington. Pirates run it in soon after. 2pt conv good. Now an 11pt game

Onside kick attempt recovered by Barrington but blown dead. Following attempt recovered by Palatine but ruled short of 10 yds

What happened to Palatine?
3 point game at half. Some odd calls and no calls seemed to ruffle the feathers too much, and by then it was too late. That and they couldn't stop runs up the middle. Multiple long TD runs

I also think they lost their edge or chip on the shoulder mentality that they have had in previous years

They could still cause some headaches in the playoffs if they get it together. I should also mention that Barrington's offense, specifically the QB and RB, played very well. The RB ran very hard

Can't win if your defense never stops anybody. I keep wanting to say " they're young, only 4 seniors starters on offense and only 2 of defense.. with 6 sophomores up and five starting.. maybe we were a year early with our expectations" - but by week 8 they should be seasoned. They have to somehow improve that defense...
