Palatine 31 - DGS 23 F

Palatine goes about 60yds in 2 plays with 130 left in the half to extend the lead

Team was tight and getting outplayed for about a quarter and a half, but righted the ship in the last 8 minutes of the second quarter. DGS had a lot of steam early on.. but you could see it fade towards halftime

Palatine holds DGS to a FG after a sack fumble deep in their own territory to pull within 5

Ball appears to have suffered some sort of injury. Hopefully returns. Backup RB runs it in to go up 12

DGS converts on multiple 4th downs on the drive, and scores on a TD pass. 28 to 24. 807 left

Palatine drive stalls and settles for the FG. Up 8 with 443 remaining

Downers defense was solid. Very well coached team. Never let the Pirates get into a good rhythm. They played faster and more physical than expected. I thought their dline was very good. One of the best Palatine saw all year. Three turnovers in their own territory didn’t help but hats off to downers for making the plays. The kickoff return was huge for them. I felt like the Pirates were going to pour it on and they responded immediately.

Offensively Downers only had 1-2 sustained drives. A better offense would’ve capitalized on the Pirates turnovers. This was the key.

As @Catch--22 said this was a really bad game for Palatine. Worst of the season by far but great teams win when things get tough. They responded to early adversity with the kickoff return and the turnovers.
Long trip to Minooka for what should be a very good game.
