Norte Dame

I'm SICK of blowouts! Clearly too many teams making this playoff. Should be limited to just 1 team making the playoffs next year!

It’s now fair to say that college football runs through the B1G. The fourth place team in the conference just won the national championship.
That’s depth! Hahaha

The Greathouse kid is aptly named.

No quit in ND. Freeman is a very good coach.
He's a great coach who had a very bad game. The fake punt and field goal attempt were both horrendous decisions. But they battled until the end.

Also, the narrative that neither of these teams won a conference championship so they don't deserve to be there is pure silliness. We all love the NCAA basketball tournament, no?

The fake punt was open with a better throw it’s a first down. The FG if they make it isn’t bad call since you are down 13 with momentum, the odds of converting three 2 point plays are slim so they were going to need a FG but the shank was brutal.

Exactly, both plays with better execution were perfect calls. Ohio State was just the better team this game.

Only one champ per year but also only one runner-up. They played to win despite all that had been going in the other direction. tOSU receivers are excellent and Howard was able to run when he needed. There was no quit in the Irish. Not their best game but a great season after being declared dead after the NIU game. I'm excited to see what next year brings.

Analytics actually say the field goal decision was a tossup with it leaning ever so slightly to field goal.

Of course when the kicker misses then it really looks bad.

Crap. Al Golden leaving to be DC with the Bengals.
Are you really mad after the NC game? ND has shown it can attract high level DCs in recent years. Golden was a great coach but ND will reload with another great coach.

Very disappointing game to watch. ND did not play to their capability and they got outcoached by OSU coordinators showing new looks. With that said, the future is very bright for ND, who look like the odds on favorite or near favorite next season with nearly the entire team back.

Yes, I am that upset. ND defense had a bad first half and it killed them. The fact that he's going back to the NFL validates how good he is. Word is ND will likely promote from within, but at least in year 1 with a new DC there could be a step back.

Entire team back? On offense yes, but the QB is still a question mark. On defense, they lose their top 2 DL and top 2 DBs as well as Jack Kiser. Odds on favorite, not quite. Irish are currently 16-1 to win all next year which is 7th choice.

I thought Golden flubbed the gameplan against OSU personally. Here’s the last 4 ND DCs:

Golden - NFL
Freeman - HC ND
Lea - HC in SEC (Vandy)
Elko - HC in SEC (A&M)

And the next Irish DC will leave in another 2-3 seasons. We’ll be just be fine there.

As far as players, we didn’t have Morrison most of the year. Watts will be a tough loss but the Irish always reload at Safety.

The QB is definitely a question mark, but I have faith in Freeman to solve that after getting Riley last offseason.

Was not a fan of Leonard. They need a QB that can throw the ball. Will be interested to see who wins out between Carr and Angeli.

Leonard's leadership was outstanding except for the NIU loss. He ran well against tOSU and helped Greathouse look like the best receiver on the field. Next man up all year was excellent until there were too many men down. I found their attitudes to be championship class and with Freeman as the coach, I don't see that leaving Notre Dame. He came from needing more to get to the final game than he will have to come up with to get there again.

So much for everyone back on offense. Spindler and Coogan have entered the portal. That’s 23 combined starts from last year gone from the OL.

They both weren’t slated to start. It’ll most likely be jagusah, schrauth, Craig, Knapp, and Wagner. Not sure who will play tackle Knapp or jagusah. Craig was the week 1 starting center before he got hurt and jagusah was the starting LT in camp before tearing his pec and missing the whole regular season.

Coogan would have found a place to play. He took advantage of injuries last year and played his ass off where he kept his spot even when injured players returned. He was the heart of that line in the playoff and I think Freeman would have found him a spot. First team CFP consisted of a couple ND players including Coogan at C. I am shocked to see him hit the portal especially with how devoted he seemed to ND in his pregame speeches. Time will tell where these guys land and if they get paid. Unfortunately $$ that's the big thing in today day.
