Nominate: Week 6 Chicago Bears HS Coach of the Week here

Chad Hetlet put on a clinic at LT this week in every phase of the game. His defense held a top tier QB in check by allowing 107 yards between the 20's but nothing in the Red Zone. LT's one scoring drive for a FG started at GW's 30 after the opening KO was returned 60 yards.

GW held the LT rushing game under 30 yards and Hetlet dialed up a series of delayed blitzes that rattled Bryant all night while picking up three sacks.

On offense Hetlet and Sig quickly realized LT was focused on stopping Pierce (kid again proved that he is a special talent) and the GW passing game, so GW unleashed a running game that put up 467 yards against a very large, physical LT d line.

My favorite part of the game was when GW, after a 7 minute drive to go up 14-3 with 1:30 left in the half, stopped LT with a three and out. LT had thrown two incomplete passes and a draw on third down to run the clock. While every coach on the sidelines, and many of us in the stands hollered for a timeout to get one more drive, Hetlet emphatically shut everyone down.

Hetlet knew better than all of us that this was not going to be some crazy, do whatever it takes to win a football game moment. Nope, he knew that he had a plan and that plan was methodical and brutal. He knew GW was getting the 2nd half KO and that GW was running downhill. He knew a 21-3 lead after that first 2nd half drive would cause LT to get nervous and he knew he could dial up the right blitz to force a three and out on LT's first chance to respond. He knew OC Sig could dial up a back breaking drive to make it 28-3 with GW scoring 21 points and chewing about 20 minutes of clock against LT's three plays in that span.

Hetlet knew all of that with 1:10 left in the first half and he knew he had a plan in place that just needed time to play out. Not sure how all that played out or was discussed on TV, but the feeling in the stands was incredibly calming to everyone when they recognized in that one moment that Hetlet was in total control of that game.

Hands down

The Hitters were very impressive but LT was highly overrated. Prior to the game LT opponents had a record of 8-17! So while their record was great, they were not. Good game Hitters.

Alan Thorson of Morris. I'm not sure how many people gave Morris a shot at home against the undefeated DeKalb squad which is a significantly larger school. A big 19-10 victory with Cornfest as the backdrop.

Some really good coaching truly expose that.

I am looking at Jeff Vlk of Buffalo Grove. The Bison are 6-0 and clinched their first playoff spot since 2003.

No question West played well and no question Lyons did not...also surprised no one talked about the weird whistle pass play to Alec Pierce that basically kept the drive alive and West ended up taking the 21-3 lead early in the 3rd Q...you could hear a whistle clearly on the TV side and half the players stopped...also that seemed to be a critical series Lyons also lost Mickey Brown to an injury a play or two before. Weird chain of events.

It was weird but it looked like the head ref was simply blowing the play started as GW was coming over the ball. GW was going on first sound so they snapped the ball about a half second after the play clock was started. LT stopped playing but I think that was on them. All the GW kids were going full throttle.

Another play somewhat bothered us when the back judge blew an inadvertent whistle when he hit four on the count down to delay of game. GW gained 20 for a first down and after we had all moved down field, the refs took 3-4 minutes to talk about it then break the news to Hetlet that they were bringing the ball back and replaying the down. Regained the first down anyway but those refs had a bad night.
