Mount Carmel 38 (-21) Saint Charles North 14: Very nice season for SCN, but like many nice seasons in the past for many squads, they die at the hands of the Caravan.

Marist 24 (+6) Loyola 23: GOTW! This has the makings to be a classic. Both teams are playing very well and both have done essentially the same against common opponents. I'm taking the RedHawks in a thriller that comes down to the wire!

Saint Rita 37 (-21) Willowbrook 6: This is just a bad matchup for Willowbrook. Ponies march on without much effort

Nazareth 56 Woodstock North 7 (-59): Great season Thunder! Don't let this thrashing that Naz will deliver take anything away from it.

Saint Francis 34 Prairie Ridge 13 (+23): Samson Evans is not walking through the tunnel to save PR.

Joliet Catholic 42 (-34) @ Sacred Heart Griffin 7: Don't look now, but JCA has a very favorable path to BloNo.

DePaul 36 Geneseo 24 (+23): I think Geneseo will keep things kind of interesting early, but DePaul's skill players will slowly exert their will

Rochelle 38 Benet 34 (+14): Rochelle finally takes on a CCL team with real firepower. The Hubs hang on, but it will be a battle to the bitter end

Saint Laurence 31 (-2) Wheaton Academy 26: Another excellent matchup here. Larry's seems to be healthy and I have to stand by my word in that I believe that they will be around a few weeks into November.

Montini 33 (-1) Byron 29: Oh baby! This game has been spoken into existence! I am so excited for the debates about public vs. private and the multiplier discussions after this game!

Downers Grove North 37 Fenwick 24 (+18): Fenwick will not be startled in the slightest by DGN, but DGN has played at a level that has just been the next tier above Fenwick. I do think the Friars keep it in striking distance headed into the 4th.

Prep Bowl Playoffs:

Carmel 27 Marian 7 (+25):
There will be absolutely 0 juice for this game. Carmel is bitterly disappointed and Heights has to take a stupid long drive.

Not just long - more like eternal. About 25 years ago, my plumber was the volunteer videographer for the Corsairs. He hated driving to thr far south suburbs - especially on a Friday, He had to take a full day's vacation.

I foresee Catholic eyes will be a-smiling this weekend (other than those Catholics that have the unfortunate task of facing...other Catholics).

SCN +21 vs MC. Stars beat Geneva by 14. Geneva beat Batavia by 23. Batavia is on the level of MC. And yes, I am completely ignoring the fact that SCN itself lost to Batavia by 24. Logic need not apply here. Caravan 35-23.

LA -6 vs Marist. This is going to be a classic. Loyola's defense seems to be on a different level right now and I think that makes the difference here. Ramblers 17-10.

Rita -21 vs Willowbrook. The Warriors have had a nice season. They haven't faced anything on the level of St. Rita. I don't think this one will be particular close. Mustangs 45-7.

Woodstock North +59 vs Naz. Woodstock North has an overly unimpressive schedule. Naz has another 'bye' week. Roadrunners 56-6.

Prairie Ridge +23 vs SF. I think this one is tight until the 4th. WSF 35-21.

SHG +34 vs JCA. Our CCL step-brother Cyclones. They had a very nice win last week vs Mahomet Seymour. Unfortunately, they are running into a juggernaut. Hilltoppers 42-14.

DePaul -23 vs Geneseo. Wish this game was at Geneseo. Cool gameday atmosphere. This one won't be close. Rams 49-14.

Benet +14 vs Rochelle. Very interested in this one. Benet has had some absolute stinkers this year but also some very nice wins (Moline, DePaul). Rochelle is solid but hasn't faced the toughest schedule. I wouldn't be shocked to see Benet pull off the upset here so will go for it. Redwings 35-34.

StL -2 vs WA. All depends on the health of the Vikes! I'll trust they are healthy and give them the win here. 24-17 Vikings.

Montini -1 vs Byron. GOTW. State Championship in round 2? Absolutely cannot wait for this one. I've trusted the Broncos' defense all year and won't stray from that now. Montini 21-20.

Fenwick +18 vs DGN. Friars coming off a huge win last week. Surprised to see this spread so big given what Fenwick showed. I think they can keep this one within two TDs. DGN 35-21.

Marian +25 vs CoM. Will come down to "motivation". Spartans will use the long bus ride to get motivate, or something. But won't be quite enough. Corsairs 30-21.

SCN @ MC
I will take the point with Chuck North. Chuck can chuck it and MC has given up some point via the pass this year.
LA @ Marist
Ramblers are rambling right now, they cover.
SR @ Willowbrook
'Stangs cover in this one.
Woodstock North @ Naz
The Roadtucs roll but that's a lot of points, give them to me.
PR @ SF
The Wolves cover in this one. They will control the ball enough to keep Sparty from covering.
JCA @ SHG
SHG and the points, long trip for JCA and they win but not by 34.
Geneseo @ DP
DCP gives it to them from all angles and rolls, they cover.
BA @ Rochelle
Hubs cover, Redwings won't stop them.
WA @ STL
Larry covers in this one, I hear they are getting healthy.
Byron @ MCHS
Bronco covers on way to 3A title.
F @ DGN
I'll take F and the points, but DGN wins the game.
Marian @ CoM
Carmel covers

Special Teams, Special Teams and Special Teams will be a factor in Round 2. For example, i cannot believe how many teams cannot effectively punt the football or tackle on KO coverage.

SF -23

Round 2 State playoffs

A boy’s last dream and a man’s first loss.
J. Isbell

Mt. Carmel -21 Loss to Loyola woke up some echoes. This won’t be pretty.

Marist +6 The goal for the RedHawks will not be to just keep it close or to make it a game.

St. Rita -21 Enjoying this team. Enjoying that their 2 high-profile games this season are perceived by the Public a certain way.

Wood +59 Next year this match up doesn’t happen

Prairie +23 Wolves have the correct offense to compete with the Spartans. St. Francis O will eventually pull away

Sacred Heart-Griffin +34 Catholic (Joliet) in control most of the game but I expect a spirited effort from the Cyclones at home.

DeP -23 Haven’t gotten DePaul correct all year. So fade me here.

Benet +14 But I have been riding the Redwings all season and most of the time it has worked out

St. Laurence -2 no comment. Viking comments are being closely monitored.

Montini -1 The board will be a lot of fun on Saturday night

Downers Grove North -18 Don’t see this one being within 2 scores.

Marian Catholic +25 I wonder where the Spartans would be if the past offseason was kinder to them

If the Caravan somehow pull this off, it'll be by 7 points. North Stars (unimaginative name).
LA @ Marist Sat 11/9 1:30pm
Unique game. Fitz vs Fitz Rematch. Game is by the boneyard, which is scary. Also, the drive is very long. And, it'll be windy. I don't know how the kids can compete against these obstacles. Maybe it should be moved indoors at the new facility. Ramblers.
SR @ Willowbrook Fri 11/8 7pm
Mustangs are solid, but we're getting over our skis with these spreads. Warriors.
Woodstock North @ Naz Sat 11/9 1pm
It would be poor sportsmanship for a team to beat a team by a spread like that. Thunder.
Prairie Ridge @ SF Sat 11/9 1pm
Crazy spread. Wolves.
JC @ SHG Sat 11/9 2pm
I don't see SHG getting limited to 6 points (Gambletron is dissing the kicker). Cyclones.
Geneseo @ DP Sat 11/9 1pm
This one is going to be funky. Guaranteed. IYKYK. Rams.
BA @ Rochelle Fri 11/8 7pm
I think the 'Wings could straight up pull this one out. Saying that, I've probably jinxed them. 'Wings.
WA @ SL Sat 11/9 1pm
I'm wondering if Gambletron has an AI component. Wheaton is scoring like mad. Warriors.
Byron @ MCHS Sat 11/9 1pm
GOTW. 823 points last season. Absolute scoring clinic. Tigers.
F @ DGN Sat 11/9 1pm
QB Courage just might make a game of this. Friars.

Prep Bowl Playoffs:
Marian, Heights @ CoM Fri 11/8 6pm
Corsairs by 100.

SCN +21 vs MC- Why the 8-1 SCN is not ranked in the Times is beyond me. The 2018 "Tyler Nubin" game between the heavily favored MC vs SCN in the 2018 Semi in Coach Lynch's first year still must sting. I like MC but not by 21 over a team with a 3 year starter at QB and the secondary being the thorn in MC's side defensvily all season.

LA -6 vs Marist- I like Loyola by 10. They seemed to have figured it out. Fitzgerald looked healthy and spot on vs MC and MacPherson, the CCL Blue Lawless winner has really turned it on. Marist had a nice bunce back season but they played 2 levels down their norm this year in the CCL Orange and they lost that Conference Championship to JCA. Being @Marist helps but I like LA by 2 scores.

Rita -21 vs Willowbrook- Willowbrook will need a lot to go right to defeat the Mustangs. I don't think their offensive line will match up well vs SR front seven on D. Possible push but I like SR comfortably before they take on #2 seed Quincy in the Quarters.

Woodstock North +59 vs Naz. 50 point rule for me comes into effect.

Prairie Ridge +23 vs SF.Not one of PR's stronger teams but I'll take 23.

SHG +34 vs JCA. You don't see SHG getting 34 often so I'll take it.

DePaul -23 vs Geneseo. Lets see how far DePaul has come. I think they can keep it at 21.

Rochelle -14 vs Benet. Not one of Benets better teams.

WA +2 vs STL. This game went to double OT with a better SL team. I'll happily take points with this game.

Montini -1 vs Byron- Lets see if Montinis probable stronger schedule hold up here. Too bad this has to be week 2.

DGN -18 vs. Fenwick- Fenwick played a great game vs BR defensivley and it was an impressive win at home. They are on the road now, I had BR losing this game when it would have been @ BR. DGN's QB is back from injury and threw 3 TDs vs WWS. I like them by 20 here, Fenwicks offense is just not explosive as it needs to be.

COM -25 vs MC of the Heights- COM really stunned me this year, they have a highly touted QB and some good talent around him and something didn't click. I think they let it all loose vs MC of the Heights and win by 28

Marist had a nice bunce back season but they played 2 levels down their norm this year in the CCL Orange
That's a good point. And they drew Ignatius and IC in their Blue and Green crossovers, respectively. One has to wonder if their schedule has properly prepared them for a high quality 8A opponent like LA.

MC -21. Late cover
Marist +6. Straight up W. I agree with others that they had easier crossovers than other teams but Iggy and ICCP aren’t cupcakes either. Marist was a doink away from 10-0.
Rita -21 I would take them -28
Naz -59
Francis -23
SHG +34
Genesis -23
Rochelle -14
St. Laurence -2
Montini -1
Friar +18
upset of the playoffs thus far.

Carmel -25 that bus ride sucks x2
