Soucie has them at #6, which as noted is a better draw - no second round Loyola - but I'm just not as versed as lots of people on here seem to be, trying to understand why they're #6 and not #5?

Nope. Conference champ means nothing for playoffs. Seeding goes by record, combine wins of all opponents (playoff points), and then combined wins of all defeated opponents.
