IHSA Playoff Outlook Week 8

Also in actuality - ESL to 6A just bumps Calumet City - Thornton Fractional North to 5A and Rita to 7A bumps Oak Park - Fenwick to 6
Wouldn't that then bump a team down from 5A with TF North moving into 5A and with Rita bumping Fenwick to 6A then another 6A team would go down to 5A? Love the domino effect these movements create.

According to IHSA Antioch and Glenbard South are also petioning up to 6A? Although Antioch might get there on enrollment alone anyways.

Well shit. I had a note to remember ESL and completely forgot it. Rita I had no clue about. The obvious solution is to ignore everything above 4A……what a waste of time.
It is impossible to ignore everything above four a because everything starts in 8A and then goes downward.

I don't think the petitions of ESL and Rita would actually cause cascading due to the fact that its one class jumps that displace only the lowest team in the other bracket. So ESL jumps to 6A and sends CCTFN to 5A (both brackets remain at 32), Rita jumps 6A to 7A displacing Fenwick down to their spot again leaving both brackets at 32. My brain is mush, wait for Soucie to do it on Wednesday...

These new ones I didn't know about would I'd have to look. Would it not just be a simple flip of the smallest school in the higher division becoming the largest school in the lower division? Obviously would be more dominoes if it was more than a 1 class jump. Mush...

I can’t stop laughing at this. GBS trying to avoid Naz like Naz is the problem and not them.
I seriously suggested it when all that Antioch talk happened in years' past. 6A obviously is strong, but tends to be less private heavy than 5A.

Kudos to any team paying up though (no matter the reason)

I do find this interesting. @EdgyTim, do you know Sam Knox well enough to address the discrepancy in the St. Laurence ACTUAL ADMITTED ADVERTISED enrollment number.

2021- 710
2020- 853

Thank you for your interest in St. Laurence High School!

Welcome to St. Laurence, the fastest growing Catholic high school in Chicago’s southland. Our diverse student population of more than 1,110 young men and women come from 81 zip codes and more than 170 grade schools across the Chicagoland area. While we have grown, we still maintain the small school feel so that every student doesn’t just fit in—they stand out.

If they think Naz is an issue wait until they get matched up with CG and they all leave with a Rx for painkillers in addition to the running clock.

Yeah let me get right on that....

Nah, no kudos given by this guy when you’re running from something. Those programs will get clocked by publics in 6a and consider it a win because it’s not a private school. Then they’ll think they did something for their crusade. SMH

It's almost a no win situation for those middle sized publics. 5A is loaded with capped privates, 6A may buy them a game once in awhile but usually has several top 10 teams in it. I've heard it all, coach better, watch more film, get more to come out. While all definitely helps, more talent will more times then not triumph over the other stuff. Until there some real digging into the data and fresh solutions presented it will be a lot of the same. I can tell you GBS is and always been probably a mid 4A to high 3A at best. Playing in the UpState Eight masks a lot of their issues. Someone told me their HC is something like 1 - 25 against teams ranked 150 or better in the state. But IHSA grants their petition up is crazy. Watch them land Fenwick. Personally a petition down or some sort Relegation rules/brackets (Like Premier League Soccer). Ha, now I am just rambling, this another thread for another day 😂.

What I don’t like about the IHSA outlook is that it is unbalanced. There are different numbers of teams listed in each class. 34 in 1A, 35 in 2A, 38 in 3A, 35 in 4A, etc…

This is because that is where they are likely to land

It's because each class has a different amount of teams that can still make the playoffs.

Yeah sure, I guess, but the classes aren’t determined until the field of 256 is set.
As far as I can tell, the IHSA outlook as depicted isn’t using any predictions, so their current class cutoffs listed seem pretty arbitrary.

When I look at the 4-4 teams currently listed in 1A and 2A, it looks like there will be more than 64 of them in those two classes that finish 5-4, which will push Wilmington and Carlinville up to 3A.

That's why it's an outlook not a prediction. It lists teams in classes as they currently stand and not a projection of who will win in future weeks.

My friends daughter graduated in 2021 from Lawrence and the school had 913 students and they posted then, that the in coming class was even larger. He was also a coach there and said numbers were off with the state, it should be looked into by someone
