Pardon my tardiness again, but I was waiting on Monday CPS and LA/DLS finals... Tuesday I was distracted by The Challenge on MTV. The whole house has it out for Bananas & Tony, but they earned the power vote AGAIN!
Every Monday(-ish), I bracket the 256 playoff teams using the IHSA Playoff Outlook. This is NOT a prediction. These are NOT my opinions. It is simply the most logical way the playoffs would be bracketed, using the IHSA's specific system, if today's standings were the final standings.
Each week I usually have to add/subtract teams to get a true 256. The Outlook doesn't adjust for a conference champion falling below the cutoff. I take care of that before proceeding.
My adjustments.....
I made sure to keep conference leaders Wood River-East Alton (4-3/27) and Clemente (4-3/25) in the field of 256. The Outlook is wrong again, of course The IHSA is 0-4 in 2018. Unreal.
I started with a field comprised of every team with a 4-3 record or better AND in which every 6-member conference was represented at least once. This gave us 266 teams.
I need to eliminate 10 teams. Starting at the bottom, I begin crossing out the 4-3 teams with the fewest playoff points... Westmont (15), De La Salle (21), Sullivan (21), Nokomis (23), Kankakee (24), Cambridge-Ridgewood (26), Winchester-West Central (26), and Rich East (26) are the 8 lowest teams.
I have 258 teams left. The bottom 3 teams are tied at 4-3/27. Only one of these teams can qualify. These teams are Oakland-Tri County, Dwight, and Peoria ND. The next tie-breaker is total victories by defeated opponents. Peo ND has 9, while Dwight and O-TC only have 5. ND is in!
The classes I'm left with, per the Outlook, are 35-29-32-32-29-32-34-33 from biggest to smallest. Scoot some teams up and down until we're balanced, plug 'em in, and post 'em!
