I was reading an article this morning at Axios which talked about the potential effect, and unintended consequence of the Corona Virus. Specifically how the cancellation of the NCAA basketball tourney will effect college sports. Specifically the split from revenue from the NCAA tournament with member colleges has gone from $600 million to $225 million.
The reduction in revenue will likely not have much of an effect on some of the larger conferences and/or schools, but could and will have severe consequences for schools that depend on money from the NCAA as a major component of their athletic department budget. It likely will cause many schools to reduce the amount of scholarships offered in both BCS and FCS schools, freeze or reduce athletic department budgets and cut both revenue and non-revenue sport teams.
