ESL v IMG ---- 13-14 IMG - OT Game. (Full Game Video Recap)

It's safe to say the ESL enjoys several advantages in regards to football:

1) the greatest amount of talent in Illinois football (certainly 6A and below) based on college scholarship offers/signees/NFL players, etc.,
2) their HC is also their AD, this is huge if you understand scheduling, resources, etc.,
3) Nike Sponsorship (this is a true sponsorship, 100% free/reduced lunch program but 4 helmets, travel gear, top of the line jersey's, etc.),
4) ESPN endorsement to fly to big away games, which ESL uses as a selling point to lure 'recruits' out of St. Louis and rival schools,
5) incredible facilities,

With these massive, and I mean MASSIVE, advantages, ESL has won 4 state titles since the amazing run of Coach Shannon in the 70's/80's/90's, and two runner-ups. That, in itself, is impressive....now let's compare to some public schools that offer none of those advantages, like PR (3 state titles and 2 runner-ups) and CG (4 state titles and 2 runner-ups).

I understand the amount of love ESL gets, and most of it is warranted, but it's easy to see why one could say they are a massive underachiever.
Your negative stance makes sense now that I know that you assume and exaggerate things you have no clue about. A) you now sound envious and B) you saying kids from some of the most impoverished and dangerous areas in the country have too many advantages is retarded and C) we earned and scraped together everything we have. Don’t look at the finished product and throw shade

Everything I stated was true. Let the hate consume you.

While what you type may be true, do you really believe the kids from ESL have more advantages than the kids from PR and CG? C'mon!? From an outsider looking in, that sounds pretty ridiculous.

The outrageously sad part is that somehow 🤪 HE REALLY DOES…. and that’s what’s always been scary. HAPPY HALLOWEEN! The freaks are out!

I can tell stories of not having tape to use before games and the practice field grass being shin high or not enough kids that we practiced one side of the offense at a time. You DONT KNOW. The perks came from hard work and chasing a vision.

Yea underachievers are the worst. Like going 9-0 and 8-1 every reg season then getting blown out by 20+ and never making it out of the second round of the playoffs for a decade. It has to be frustrating to see a program sh*t the bed every single year.

Bro I’ve never hated on anyone or anything. It’s comes off that you are trying to sell a narrative that no sane person will buy. But hey man whatever makes you feel good about disliking someone you have no clue about or connection with. You look bad here
Name the inaccuracy.

In what way? I have no skin in the game, just asking. How are PR kids better athletically?

Given that you’re such an analyst, give us all the “bullet points” on CG and PR. Or are they just naturally and organically GREAT? What say you?
They are not great. Just average high school kids who overachieve. I'm only basing my comments on the bullet points I made above. I concede that PR and CG have superior coaching.

Lol. Just average U-46 kids. None recruited. In a tough classification. If you only knew.

Not a a CG fan just to clarify^^

Ok man. You right. Great research. We are horrible people. Our kids underachieve. You win a medal for outing ESL. ATTA BOY
1) You are NOT horrible people. Your worth is not based on HS football.
2) ESL is a great program for 100+ years
3) I am not a CG/PR guy but I enjoy the little guy winning.
4) You have underachieved IN FOOTBALL based on my bullet points. Nothing more.
All can be true. Good luck moving forward.

You still don’t understand. lol we are the little guys lol. We continuously petition up. We always play bigger and better teams. Your narrative has a lot of assumptions. We do us and don’t worry about others. But it’s a-shame our success disrupts your spirit. But your problem not ours. Good luck to the Storm

Naw. You recruit too. Ive already told you the story about the kid from the west side who ended up at Batavia who Teonic recruited all summer. But just like football, you guys dont do it very well so you point fingers.

Its ok. You aspire to be ESL. And until you can you are going to attempt to make some peripheral connection btw your "facts" and your conclusion.

I hope you continue explaining your point though. I think the board really would enjoy listening to a South Elgin fan tell us how ESL has underachieved!

Sounds like his concerns should focus more on why his team sucks in the playoffs
They lost to Marist in 22 who went to the Semis
Lost to Brother Rice another semifinalist
A loss to Maine South that was vacated for cheating?
They've beat Edwardsville and Bellville East in playoffs
I think they've also had some shitty draws but 🤷‍♂️
I have no skin in the game really but i don't think they've gravely underperformed most years

ESL wins a lot. But they also lose more than they should based on talent.
Thank you for your opinion.
Name the inaccuracy.
1. Nike hasn't give ESL one uniform EVER. As a NIKE school, you get discounts and the ability to order certain things that other can't. There is NO money donated from NIKE. Also ESL has had the same uniform style for 16 years now. It is very easy to have multiple color variations when you are not buying new uniforms every other year.

2. Helmets- When you don't dress a lot of kids, it very easy to have multiple helmet colors. Trim your roster from 70 plus down to 50 and there you have it. ESL also don't have three levels of football. Half of the JV dress varsity. Simple numbers
40 Fresh 40 Soph 70 varsity equates to 150 helmets. ESL have 50 so the same helmet count but three different colors. Simple math. Not an advantage, just using the same resource differently.

3. ESPN has never given ESL a dime. The one game that was on ESPN years ago, the individuals running the classic PAID ESPN to broadcast which was not smart. This is one of the reasons the District took over running it.

4. As noted on other post kids from ESL/ STL transfer schools almost yearly. This senior class ESL lost, 4 star QB going to Illinios to CR, 4 star WR who has 30 plus offers to CR and a 4 star Safety who is committed to SMU to Desoto Tx. They also lost another corner that wasn't a starter to Desoto Tx. These kids are NEVER mentioned however, kids that transferred in becomes the reason why.

5. Scholarships are based on measurable more than skill. There are a ton of skilled high school players who never play a down of college football.

Lastly out of 500 plus high schools, how many teams can say they have been to state 6 times winning 4 during that same period.

I will await your response. If there isn't one, I will then put you in coward status bumping your gums as a keyboard warrior. If you want to talk facts we can. If not, BEAT IT!

This also speaks volumes about the immense amount of talent that ESL has though. To lose that and still be a phenomenal ball team. The South Elgins of the world don't have even one 4 or 3 or 2 star to give anybody. In reality ESL has A lot of the best athletes in the state year in and year out. That's why its a big deal every year they don't win and If they lose is most likely to a team with A lot less talent (in the IHSA playoffs) Same reason is a big deal if Alabama or Georgia loses cant have the number one class every year and not produce. Obviously there are other things economically socially whatever you want to say but on the football field they normally have the better bigger kids.

And the obvious question is, has anyone called Nick Saban or Kirby Smart an underachiever?

Not that I can think of Im a die hard BAMA fan though so i hate Kirby (need that mean ass defense back) i just think its a huge kudos to the teams that play ESL and beat them.

Another point to make is maybe ESL develops that talent which is why talent is always there. Let's take this year, The WR core consist of 1 senior, 2 juniors and 4 sophomores all playing against the level of competition they have played this year. There are also three Freshman that have gotten some playing time early. ESL also only play a JV schedule which mean the kids ALWAYS play older competitions. Maybe this aide in the development of the "talent" that ESL is said to have.

I’m glad that you have openly voiced these sentiments because I can guarantee you this. It’s that mode of thinking that plays out in the officiating as well, when one particular team is always underrepresented. Us ESL folks have always realized that it’s “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” disposition towards our community. SMH!

The RESOURCES Bama and GA have are exponentially larger than the field.

Why has Oregon begun to surge - Phol Knight/Nike dollars can now be openly and freely given. Texas AM - OIL MONEY!!!!
Not denying that at all. They have to also be decent in ESL HS to give those kids playing ball all the nice things they do have. All the money they need to travel every year and the awesome stadium comes from somewhere I'm sure they fund raise well and get money from former plays and what have you. There are many schools up here in "nicer" areas that cant afford that.

Im a fan of yalls and i was glued to the stream hoping yall beat IMG. ESL puts on for illinois nationally which is awesome but failing to recognize that there are some awesome positives of being at that school playing football is crazyyyy. Also IMG had something like 19 penalties against them which is a record high and i can think of almost a handful of them that negated huge plays for IMG so im not sure what you meant about officiating. Im actually trying to give you a compliment that you field awesome times regularly and have amazing support for the football program....

So if we win it's unfair but if we lose we are underachieving. LMAO
I did not say anything about unfair or underachieving? If a school isnt helping boost their athletics that is 2000% their fault, but I do think it says something about a program who can get it done playing yall. ESL isnt going to lost to some no name 5-4 team but if someone can get it done then i think it speaks volumes about the other program as well and that they also got to be doing the right things. Does that make more sense? maybe i been saying it wrong
