Chicago State is moving forward with football Head Coaching search

Ummm do you know the state of CSU? Makes Roosevelt look like Harvard.
Wasn't comparing Roosevelt to CSU bud. Thanks for your input though.

Name another school in the country in which the practice facility is a 20+ mile drive through a major metropolitan city?

There’s alot to be desired going to school in Chicago compared to where many of these campuses are located. Some of them play in high school stadiums.

There are probably many kids in Michigan that would relish the opportunity to go and play in Chicago, as well as Wisconsin kids, which has no D2 programs.

Not to mention, kids that were over recruited that want to come back home and have a place to play. Having spent the last four years traveling around D2 stadiums and around D2 programs I believe it’s going to be better there than you think

I coached at Roosevelt when it was Robert Morris and I played Division 2 football. I'm well aware of both sides.

Kids want to go play somewhere where there's community, student involvement and the stadium is on campus (amounts other things). It's impossible for Roosevelt to get any of these (3).

Hence their coach just left to go to a D3 that offers the above.

its a fair point, but I still think they will become at the very least a middle of the pack GLIAC program.

I’m glad my son is out of WSU for his final year.

Roosevelt is an absolute dumpster fire of a place to play football. I don't see anyway they ever have a respectable Division 2 program.
There isn't a 100 yard patch of grass across the street at Grant Park they could acquire for practice purposes? I would absolutely hate going from downtown to Arlington Heights and back everyday for practice....they can't secure something closer to downtown or at least in the City to practice??
Their campus is a high rise in downtown Chicago and their football facility is in Arlington Heights. That's a 24mile drive to practice down interstate 90. The team takes buses to and from practice each day.
* Morris Field to Roosevelt University

Since the cafeteria is closed by the time the guys get back from practice, the team is given fast food for the bus ride home from practice each day.

The coach they had for the past 10-15 years just left for a D3 job.

They won't ever get enough talent to compete against the schools in their conference. They will get D3 talent that is drawn to the allure of a scholarship but they won't get actual high caliber D2 talent.

They will always have attrition issues because of the logistical nightmare the football program is set up with.

Name another school that has started a major sports program only to have it fold.

The more I think about it out this the more I agree with the poster who said there is on a 10% chance they get a football program. Way too many obstacles. Too many. The Roosevelt thing is very tough for the players and coaches. All of them have much better and many NAIA and D3 opportunities within a few miles.

Rosevelt shares a stadium with Viator.

"Happens all the time"... References a team from the 70's.

I wasn't talking football, I was referring to CSU's defunct baseball program.
You’re one of a kind. We can move the goal post if you’d like from football to baseball. It’s not hard to google these things (not sure why you don’t before you make comments).

There were a few teams who cut their baseball programs in 2020 alongside Chicago St during the pandemic (furman & Boise st, etc).

Programs who’ve cut baseball - 4A Fan…actually look at this link

Hey bud, UIC was referenced bc they’re local but I think you knew that.

If you actually look at the link provided, you’d see numerous programs who’ve cut football bud.

I'm aware schools cut sports, chief, my comment was centered around the state of affairs at CSU. They currently have a whopping 7 men's sports, that's it.

I think the bigger question is why in God's name do they think they can jump straight into the deep end by starting out as a D1 football program?

Their basketball team is currently 4-23. Not sure where they'll get the money required for those scholarships.

I’m confused what’s being argued… lol

Sounds like they need to find a coach to run the triple option, if you cannot beat them with talent, beat them with scheme.

With Roosevelt being D2 now and CSU possibly joining them, what other colleges in the area could you see moving to D2? There are enough NAIA and D3 schools in the state to form a nice D2 conference.
I think you are more likely to see schools take the tack of a St Thomas, and go D1 and play in the Pioneer league.

Chicagoland....I don't see any that make sense moving up. North Central could do it but the CCIW is a great conference.

For the sake of the conversation....here's what I think could be a good Chicagoland D2 conference.

North Central
Wheaton
Eastern Illinois
Western Illinois
Roosevelt
Indiana Wesleyan
St. Francis (IN)

The around 2000 the WIAC had a pretty serious conversation about the entire league moving up to D2 but it never happened. Those schools actually fit the D2 profile pretty well.

The state of college football and state universities in Illinois comes into play for this.

Eastern and Western Illinois may be closed in the not so distant future. This is not about football it is about a schools ability to formulate a successful plan. CSU doesn't strike me as a school that will successfully pull it off. If they are a state school reliant upon state funding I would bet they will never see a coin toss.
