Caravan Opener vs Moeller

MC has a new DC?
Before the rumor mill goes, O'B left to be with this family more as they had a new baby I'm told. Being the MC DC is not what pays the bills so he's taking some time off coaching for a bit. I'm sure he will be around in some small capacity. He did a great job taking over for a legend in Coach Dave. Coach Grubisich is really good and he has about 6 high level D1 guys on his defense so he will be OK.

All.... 57 but who's counting (lol) along with 4,217 yards passing. Bluegrasspreps.com had a little blip from a poster about the team. Moeller does lose all of their offensive lineman as well as two solid db anchors due to graduation. I imagine though they know how to reload. Should be a great game. Ratsy
New line vs MC DL with 3 Power 4 offered players. That will help MC

How many receivers are returning for each team?
All.... The Crusaders graduated their top three receivers that accounted for around 2500 yards receiving. Five others that caught passes are back two who are rb's. (1400 yards) Some others with smaller totals.

Three rb's are back with playing time as well. Tyler Josleyn 5'9" 190 (SR) 170-855 4.7 8tds, Dante Ware 5'7" 165 (SR) 96-471 4.6 3tds, and Greylo Coach (JR) 5'7" 165 58-356 4TD

This is a team that loves to throw. The running game comes in second of course but that doesn't mean they can't hurt you on the ground. Ratsy

MC has Junior to be Quintin Burrell who has numerous Power 4 Offers.
Sophomore to be Marshaun Thorton who also has numerous D1 offers, including Miami.
Transfer Jamari Brown who has several D1 offers including Ole Miss.
Now what they don't have is Mr. Ohio at QB! In fact QB is TBD as of now. But they do have 4 returning linemen from last year and they replaced the one they lost with a transfer with pretty much his choice of Power 4 schools. They also have 2 very talented RBs....now they just need to settle on that one small position......QB

I thought it was settled. Who has moved into a tie with Dowling? Whoever it is, he must be pretty good. Even if the offense has to make adjustments on the run, the defense is more than up to the task.

The game is in Ironton because Moeller has a stadium with no lights. Apparently, once like Loyola did, they face neighborhood opposition to lights.

Steve Winkler will emerge as this year's Damarion Arrington, an all-purpose player on both sides.

I think it's Dowlings job to lose but he is going to get tested by a very Athletic Ryder Startz and the Soph to be QB D'Andrea is probably the best of the three as far as QB ability but he is real young it would be a big adjustment for him to start on Varsity as a Sophomore with the schedule MC plays. Honestly with the WRs and Line they have any of he three had enough talent to be successful

Do u see any scenario where they play 2 guys at QB? Everything has kind of been set in stone so far in Lynch era at QB heading into a season ie Premovic, Lynch, Dowling, Elliott.

The Caravan D was really young last year and at times struggled

It’s going to be interesting to see how they matured

Is there another Elliott in the MC pipeline at QB (currently an 8th grader)?

When Blainey Dowling was a junior, he and Arrington shared time at the QB position. From the Beverly Review:

"Through 4 games, Arrington and junior Blainey Dowling (7 of 12 passing, 128 yards, TD) have split time at quarterback, with Arrington usually running out of a wildcat formation and Dowling handling the passing game."

From what I've heard from some cincy family, Moeller will be down next year. Not sure what that means since I'm sure there are many years a down Moeller could win state in Illinois.

MC last year was considered to be having a “down” year

Kinda worked out for them

When a team has a strong QB… you can’t ever count them out

From 2015-2020 Moeller had down years, going
2015 5-5
2016 4-6
2017 4-7
2018 6-5
2019 2-8
2020 3-6

I highly doubt they are winning state in Illinois in any of those years.

While I agree, it made me curious so I looked into it, mainly to see where a historical national power team would rank against Illinois teams during a down year.

Putting Moeller up against the state champs in 6A for all of the years mentioned above, minus 2020. I put them in 6A because the enrollment number I could find for Moeller was 891 and applying the 1.65 multiplier Illinois uses puts their enrollment at 1,470. Below are the results according to Cal Preps, for what that's worth.

2015

Moeller 26
Montini 20

2016

Prairie Ridge 41
Moeller 20

2017

Prairie Ridge 34
Moeller 27

2018

Cary-Grove 24
Moeller 19

2019

ESL 46
Moeller 14

Given these projections they would have only been dominated in 2016 and 2019 and I feel like it's safe to say that a down Moeller team would still be competitive in Illinois. Yes, they could have, and likely would have been knocked off prior to the title game I wasn't going to reconstruct the entire bracket.

After this pointless bit of boredom on my part I still say MC by at least 2 scores.

Moeller would be an 8A school. They are all boys. Their adjusted enrollment is 2900+. Gonna guess they would fare much worse vs the LA, MS, and LWE's of the world.

True, to an extent. While they wouldn't be favored in any of those years, they would be competitive (compared to several finals games in recent years) every year except for 2019 and probably 2017.

2015

Loyola 31
Moeller 20

2016

Maine South 35
Moeller 26

2017

LWE 34
Moeller 17

2018

Loyola 21
Moeller 10

2019

LWE 34
Moeller 7

Given Moeller's record in those years I'd say it would be quite impressive if they could hang with the heavyweights they would have gone against with the exception of the 2 games against LWE.

How good would the '27 Yankees be without Babe Ruth? Actually, pretty good. Ruth batted .355 and his home runs were juiced by hot dogs and beer. They also had Lou Gherig, Ernie Nevers, and a roster with seven other hall of famers. Okay, MC wasn't the '27 Yankees, but it had a lot of talent. MC probably still wins state, but it wouldn't have been predetermined, preordained.
