Many on this site are aware of the Monken legacy in IHSA, NCAA and NFL football. Bob Monken, one of the originals, is being honored on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 6:30 P.M. at Lake Park High Schools West Campus in Roselle. At that time, the football field will be dedicated in Bob's name to celebrate his thirty years as Lake Park's varsity football coach. Bob was inducted into the Illinois Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1990. The Monken coaching legacy continues as his sons, Tony (Vernon Hills), Todd (Baltimore Ravens), and Ted (Glenbard South) continue the family tradition along with their cousin, Jeff (Army).
I was lucky enough to coach with Bob during his last eighteen years at Lake Park. He took a chance hiring me in 1975; little did he or I know it would lead to my forty-year association with Lake Park football. Please join me in celebrating the accomplishments of my friend and mentor, Bob Monken.
