In 6A we have St. Ignatius vs. Grayslake Central and ND vs. Wauconda Friday night. In 5A we have Sycamore vs. CoM on Saturday. I find ND/Wauconda intriguing, and will be at CoM Saturday. Any thoughts on these games. Possibly all three will not be close IMO.

I’m partial to my Corsairs, of course, and believe the game between Carmel Catholic and Sycamore will be the most competitive of the games you list.

I’m even going to predict an upset in Mundelein.

Weather is ripe for it (so say the forecast experts), Corsairs have been on the road for three straight weeks and get to come home to an electric crowd, face zero pressure and with an abundance of youth they WILL get another crack at this next season (‘23) if they come out on the wrong end this Saturday.

That (Sycamore vs. CCHS) would fulfill a Saturday game.

Next best IMO would be Niles ND @ Wauconda.

Very cool, hope you are right about Corsairs. As for Wauconda, no disrespect but their conference is SO weak, I wish them the best.

Od love to see Carmel advance but this is a tall task in sycamore. Next to Marist probably the best team they have faced.

I think Grayslake north wins this week. Wauconda and Grayslake Central got rough draws.

Lake Zurich has a tough one in Wheaton Saturday

Warren Andrew should be more competitive than expected as that’s a rough offense to prep for.

Newt, from what I’ve seen on film, I’d rank Sycamore as the third toughest opponent for CCHS.

#1 Marist
#2 Naz
#3 Sycamore

Given their youth, CCHS hasn’t come remotely close to playing a complete game.
Not saying it will happen (as a first) this Saturday, but if they can, look-out.
They’ve had really good, productive stretches.
And those stretches were against Marist and Naz.

Good luck to Warren.

Not sure what Machesney Park Harlem returns, but they were a very tough out for Lake Forest last season in a 2nd Rd game played @ MPH.

Then LF got past Prairie Ridge a week later, @ PR in a close one.

Sycamore over Carmel (Carmel is going to be good next year and years to come. McKie will keep getting athletes in the building....maybe even some from Gurnee).

Grayslake North over Harlem.....the Harlem defense has been subpar this year.

Notre Dame over Wauconda....ND has always played physical defense!

Lake Zurich over Wheaton North.....I feel Gondek will have a big game.

Ignatius over Grayslake Central.....Ignatius might have the best prospect in the state regardless of class.

Warren over Andrew....it will be close but Warren knows how to grind them out.

Newt where have you seen Harlem?

They are young but jelling. Soph RB 1373 yards rushing. Does GLN throw or run, with the rain and wind could be a problem if they throw.

Actually last year LF vs PR was at LF, I was there. Close, PR had the game sewn up until a late fumble IIRC. Love attending LF games, the home grandstand is enormous.

As someone who is stuck in that conference, i can give you some insight into the Grayslake teams and Wauconda:
1. GL North is not nearly as tough as they appear. If you play their game, they will beat you, but if you dictate the intimidation, they can fold. They can pass, but the qb can get rattled.
2. having played both NND and Wauconda, I think Wauconda will do okay because they will throw a bit better than we did, but if NND figures out there was really only one receiver to cover (like GL North did), it's NND in a run-away.
3. Iggy and GL Central won't be entertaining unless you are looking to see a full game and still make a 830 movie

Short story, go see NND/Wauconda maybe but I would go see Carmel, Warren or LZ if I wanted to see competitive football.

Oddy, you are correct. PR / LF game was @ LF and yes, great FB venue at their West campus location.

That wasn't so much fun there in Round 1 with the monsoon. So much wind and rain I couldn't see those enormous stands from across the field!

One thing in this thread was very inaccurate - the Carmel Catholic / Sycamore game was NOT competitive.

Congrats to the winners of these games:

St. Iggy
MPH
Sycamore
NND
LZ
Warren

The wind was horrible, and definitely effected Carmel more, in fact it didn't appear to effect Sycamore at all. But that is no excuse, Sycamore was bigger, faster etc etc..
