Impact Player for Moline
Moline senior DL Moussa Mbengue (6-foot-3, 265 pounds) is an athletic and strong inside force in the Maroons defense who no question can be an issue for opposing offense to game plan against this coming season. Mbengue has drawn various FBS/FCS and D2 interest and offers so far this summer and look for his recruiting stock to continue to rise this fall.
Looking for a sleeper name to watch for Moline? Moline senior QB/S Drew Phelps is just an impressive all around athlete who I feel has a chance to play at a higher college level as a defensive back/safety. Phelps has good ball skills and instincts on defense and runs the Maroons offense with a nice combination of running skills, play action passes making good reads in the Moline read option game.
EDGY's Preseason Thoughts on the 2025 Moline Maroons
Moline is looking to build upon a strong 2024 8-3season showing as the Maroons and head coach Mike Morrissey welcomes back an impressive 15 returning starters (8 offense 7 defense). The Maroons will look to get past Quincy this fall after losing twice last season to the Blue Devils in the regular season (43-21 regular season and 44-14 loss in the 7A playoffs). The Maroons should be in the think of the West Big 6 conference hunt along with the likes of Quincy along with the usual suspects including Sterling this season. Moline is also renovating Browning Field this summer and is expected to have all of the upgrades (including turf) in place to kickoff the season, again showing just how much support this program gets from the Moline community.
The biggest question facing Moline this summer?
Can the Maroons win the Western Big 6 conference title and make a deep run in the 7A field this fall? Again I like this Moline team and have a pretty good feeling they hav e a chance to make another run. The Maroons program has been strong under head coach Mike Morrissey (53-26 in 8 seasons) sending the Maroons to the state playoffs in 7 of the 8 playoff seasons, missing out of the post-season just once (2023) in his tenure. The Moline program has great fan and community support like much of the Western Big 6 schools and also seems to generate some pretty talented players and athletes year in and year out. Nothing is a given in the WB6 and I fully expect Moline to have it's share of tight games.....but I see Moline with say a 7-2 record in 2025.
