2025 Central State Eight Updates.

All.... Springfield local radio updates. The new local morning sports show should be interesting especially if they decide to take listener calls. šŸ€ Ratsy

2025 High School Football Radio Play By Play -

SHG - 92.3fm/1450am

Rochester - 97.7fm

Chatham - 970am

In the past other CS8 local teams playing on Saturday make it on the radio. I assume that will continue.

All.... Cyclones win 2A baseball state championship. Football studs on that team take 24 hours off and celebrate. Back to work on Monday the season is just around the corner. šŸ˜‡ Ratsy

QND QB Hunter Schuckman has transferred to Quincy Senior High for his senior season. No penalty of course in the state of Illinois for private to public transfer.
Interesting. Smart to go get a quarterback with experience in order keep the momentum wave from the past few seasons going.

All.... The article suggests (unless you have heard different) that young Mr. Schuckman was the lead on this decision. Ratsy

Regardless of the why, he's there now, and he'll be the assumed backup coming into camp later this summer. He will have to earn his starting role at QHS. And given his history at QND, there's no guarantee there. Obviously he didn't play every snap under center whilst a soph or junior. He split time for a reason. The unfortunate part of this situation is how Mr. Schuckman went about transferring, enrolling at QHS shortly after the school year ended but waiting a month to inform the media or even his own former program and coach.

Anyways, he's a kid, we can let those oversights go I suppose. Either way, I wish him all the best this season. He was a good kid. Even if his decision, as he strives to compete at a higher level, likely means he'll get to experience one of those ugly 1st or 2nd round playoff exits QHS has become known for. I guess the bump back up to 4A and a shot at Rochester* in the playoffs wasn't enticing enough for the young lad?

All.... Raiders roster on Hudl currently listing three. Ratsy

#16 John Venertloh (2027)
#7 Kaden Marth (2028)
#10 Braxton Kennin (2029)
John Venvertloh is the son of QND legend Kyle Venvertloh. Kyle (2000 grad) was the first freshman to ever start a game at QB for QND at the time and held at one point numerous passing records for the school. He then went on to play 4 years at Wesleyan. John has been patiently awaiting his turn... So I am very happy for the kid to get a shot at starting a year sooner. At least he gets the whole summer to work with the receivers and backs.

John will be the presumed starter coming into camp if I had to pick one. Obviously Coach Cornell will keep that close the chest and likely fill us with the normal coach talk about how he has no idea yet and they're all just competing.

Braxton Kennin comes into high school with a bit of hype though... He's been quite the "star" with the Junior Raiders. At least his name has been mentioned numerous times.

Whomever wins the role isn't stepping into a rebuild year. This team coming into this fall is very solid and returns a ton from last season. So things could be much, much worse with the loss of QB1 this close to camp.

A problem QND has rarely faced in the past, given QHS' football history and seemingly willful acceptance as a doormat program for most of it's existence. It's only taken Coach Little 20 years to turn it around. 😁

All jokes aside, I said it elsewhere but I do wish Hunter and his family the best at QHS. Coach Little has done a solid job getting the Devils to this place. An annual playoff program in a tough landscape to do so given his population to draw athletes from compared to most of his competition come postseason.

Am I right that QND and Rochester last faced each other in the 2nd Round of the 2014 playoffs?

Indeed. Last time QND was relevant-ish in 4A honestly. lol A 2-seed in the south that year.

If I recall correctly that game was close (again "ish") til 3rd quarter when DL teams do what DL teams do best... adjust and score in bunches.

35-14 Rocket win. They went on to beat the private-pub Chicago Phillips for the 14 4A title.

QND could do itself some favors steering clear of the 6-3/5-4 mark coming into postseason. But geography and history tells us the IHSA absolutely LOVES putting QND and Rochester in the same quad for one of those 1st or 2nd round games. QND would do best to match Rochester's record if they hope to avoid them in round 1.

All is well, except, as many of us felt coming into all but a couple of those previous contests, it would likely be a 3 score Rocket win. The only real difference nowadays is that QND has learned (kind of) to play better pass coverage. Something we really struggled with during the Bill Connell era. This would also be current HC Jack Cornell's first meeting with DL and first time seeing the Rockets in person since 2004, the one win QND has against DL, also a 2nd round game I believe. (It's all I got, rocketnation, I've got to mention it as much as I can! 😁 šŸ˜‡ )

Sidenote:

If by some miracle of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ QND and Rochester both win their divisions in the CS8, and then get paired in the playoffs, would that then be a de-facto conference championship? Man, we can only hope!!!

Sorry rat... šŸ˜‡
Sorry Chathamites
Sorry Solons

Good stuff, always play your best hand.

If Chatham can knock off Edwardsville on the road Week 1, they could (but not guaranteed) run the table and go 9-0.

After the Titans, there are 5 or 6 CS8 teams that are fairly evenly matched and might take turns beating and losing to each other throughout the season. This may possibly lead to a fair number of CS8 schools with 6-3 or 7-2 records, which could make the playoff draws very interesting.

If the Titans are tough like the 2018 and 2019 teams they will be very successful! With 6A looking stacked we will see what happens. I still will not be shocked to see EStL being "allowed" to play in 7A now that Mighty Mt Carmel is roaming the 8A landscape!
