Impact Player for Maine South:
Maine South senior QB Jack Defillppis (5-foot-9, 185 pounds) is an experienced signal caller and one of the better overall quarterbacks to watch this coming season. Defillppis has an impressive arm with very good touch and feel, is mobile and is equally effective throwing the football inside or outside the pocket. The Hawks remain a team who's identity will come from its explosive offensive passing attack and as DeFillppis goes so goes the Maine South Hawks.
EDGY's Quick Take on the 2023 Maine South Hawks:
Maine South and veteran head coach Dave Inserra has built one of the most successful public high school football programs in his tenure. In 2022 the Hawks posted a 7-2 regular season and made the 8A state playoff field. The Hawks defeated Bolingbrook and South Elgin before losing to Glenbard West in the 8A quarterfinals. After the 2022 season, Maine South was found to have violated an IHSA transfer rules and was forced to forfeit all of it's wins from the 2022 season. The Hawks program has also seen some turnover within it's coaching staff including the departure of longtime legendary offensive coordinator CharlieBliss.
The biggest question facing Maine South in 2023? Can the Hawks put it's controversial off season aside and continue to win games and make a deep playoff run this fall? The Hawks no question lost a handful of key assistant coaches, yet the Hawks program is never short on talent and this staff will also reload and the football program will continue to move forward. Look for Maine South to again challenge all comers in 2023 and I can see the Hawks positing an 8-1/7-2 caliber season this fall and to be a major threat in Class 8A for the upcoming season.
