MMXXIV Edition - CCL-ESCC Predictions Week IX

Apparently Gambletron doesn't believe in "Keep Hope Alive" but rather Blowout Week in CCLESCC-landia. Even my beloved are 10-point dogs and they haven't even seen that spooky mansion lurking behind the Caravan stands. The kids from the Heights get to travel 100 miles for a game, maybe pickup a few pumpkins, run around a corn maze. The only one-score game on the board is ... Benet? Hmm.

Dave Bernhard and who? That guy sucks....

ICE Week 9

Streator vs. Wilmington - I would imagine the Bulldogs are starting to get more focused on basketball at this point while Wilmington is polishing up the run game for a potential deep run in the playoffs. Wilmington 56 Streator 12

Lisle vs. Reed-Custer - Both teams have been playing for pride for a while and RC has let 3 or 4 wins slip through their hands. Expected more out of the Comets this year but can't overcome the offensive struggles. Lisle is in a bad spot program wise and hopefully they can right the ship next season. RC 25 Lisle 18

Manteno vs. Coal City - last week the Panthers showed who they really are and benefitted from having to play the two toughest weeks 8 and 9. Wilmington ran all over the Panthers and Coal City was the the only team that challenged the Wildcats. Coal City 44 Manteno 12

Herscher vs. Peotone - surprisingly enough but Herscher still has a shot at the playoffs. Should they end up winning this game it could throw a big wrench in the 3A playoff seeding and would give Peotone a bad draw and another potential matchup with Byron. Peotone will be ready to go and will win easily. Peotone 35 Herscher 16

6A Seeding Shakeup?

Pretty sure they just take the 32 in the class, put them on a state map, then divide them into two equal groups. Strictly geo

Thanks. Sounds like there's probably a bit of "art" to that because I could imagine East/West might also factor(i.e. a south suburban team vs. something near Iowa border).

6 HUGE games in the CCL

my PC education was apparently worthless... can someone please explain "playoff points" to me as if i don't have a high school degree? LOL
Playoff points are nothing more than the total number of games won by the opponents on your schedule. So, for example, if at the end of the season all nine of the opponents your team played ended the season with 5-4 records, your team would have earned 45 playoff points. [9 x 5 = 45]

The playoff points are important because the IHSA uses them as the first tie-breaker for determining which teams are eligible for the playoffs, and then also for seeding purposes. A team with a 4-5 record and 45 playoff points would be allowed into the playoff field before a team with a 4-5 record and 44 playoff points. Similarly, a team with an 8-1 record and 40 playoff points would have a better seed than a team with an 8-1 record and 39 playoff points.

It should be a classic and you will see more viewers tuning in than have been for years. I am very excited to see this and the playoffs ended exactly how I wanted them to. I wanted to see the Yankees and Dodgers in the WS and here we are. Two great organizations going at it for the 12th time. They have met more that any two teams and the Yankees have won eight of the eleven meeting so far.

Lots of interesting things about the series. The two best players in their leagues and in the game will meet each other on this stage. It is the first time in my lifetime that the two guys who led their league in homeruns will meet in the WS of that season. Aaron Judge hit 58 long balls for the Yankees while hitting .322. And Shohei Ohtani hit 54 homeruns for the Dodgers and hit .310.

The last time the homerun leaders in each league met in the WS was in 1956. Mickey Mantle hit 52 for the Yankees and Duke Snyder hit 43 for the Dodgers...who played in Brooklyn at the time. The last time these two teams met was in 1981 when LA won the series in six games. I don't doubt Fernando Valenzuela will be looking down on this after recently passing. He was a rookie on that 1981 Dodger team and won the Cy Young award along with the Rookie of the Year. So much history and I love tradition.

I hope the series goes seven games and of course I hope the Yankees win their 28th world title to go with those 40 pennants. I know I am in the minority but I don't care.

I hate that it doesn't start until Friday. MLB needs to figure out how to alleviate the long wait.
I have no dog in this WS but Mookie is one of my favorite players, so I will go Dodgers.

Go Dodgers! 😂

6A Seeding Shakeup?

Any idea how the IHSA defines the North/South (by latitude? county?, etc). I've been creating/posting projected brackets in another thread & would update 1-6A accordingly if I know how to assign North/South.

6A Seeding Shakeup?

Since ESL will be south and C-G/Geneva will be north, it doesn’t matter. ESL can’t be “leap frogged” by either of those two teams.
North and south are each seeded 1-16 in class 6A and below.

What Week 9 Game Intrigues You the Most?

I was just on Instagram and Sloche lists 10 Outstanding games!!

How about East St Louis vs IMG Academy?

MC vs LA. (On TV, the U or UToo)

De Smet vs Edwardsville

St Francis vs Naz

Rochester vs SHG

And more!!

This is the hardest week to pick where to see a game. This week's matchups will blow away the matchups you will see in the first two weeks of the playoffs.

Against Naperville Central, too?

MS4EVER,
You nailed it. I can’t disagree with you about East defense this year. I don’t think they are at the level we have seen with past great East teams. That said they are still very good and their offense is off the charts Scoring 339 points in 7 games allowing 97 points. East will be a tough draw in the playoffs and they won’t be afraid of anyone. We are going to see how good NC is this Friday night. Should be a great game between to undefeated teams.
Their defense has spent more time on the field this year due to their offense scoring quickly in almost every possession. It’s a numbers game at that point, and I bet East offense has less time of possession than their opponents.
