CCL Frosh Soph Scores

If JV is almost all Frosh then how can only “several Sophs” play on varsity? It sounds like every sophomore is on varsity.

How does that work for the sophs if they aren’t playing in the JV games? Sophomore football is just kind of a redshirt year where you learn a new scout team every week? If you’re a junior who will never see the field on the varsity level are you suiting up for the JV game with freshmen classmates?

The JV Saturday games are more often than not a head scratcher to me. You’ll have one school who can field a team of all sophs (15 year olds, some who haven’t hit puberty) getting walloped by a JV team that has a few massive players with varsity decals on their helmets who are 17 years old. That 1-2 year age gap can be a huge difference at that age. Especially on the OL/DL

*not directed at Carmel, just at the frosh/soph combo + JV team dilemma in general that we see more and more of lately. It’s a mess sometimes*
JV is the sophomore team but with freshman and sophomores.

WB6 Week 9……with a few bonus games.

Welp, this is it. All the dreams and excitement of a season boiled down to one last regular season game. Hope all the seniors state wide enjoy one last trot on to the field.

Quincy (8-0) @ Capital City (MO) (6-2): The Quincy high flying circus takes it’s show out of state to end the regular season. Capital City looks like a decently tough team who runs mostly split back veer and has some good athletes. Not sure if they have seen an offense like Quincy’s though. If Quincy shows up and does what it has done all season, this should be a win and an undefeated regular season.

Prediction: Quincy by 3 touchdowns

Sterling (5-3) @ Moline (6-2): Last season Sterling won 22-17. This game has quite a bit riding on it. For Sterling, it’s getting that ticket punching 6th win and good momentum heading into the postseason which would be huge for a team that plays a lot of underclassmen. For Moline, a 7th win helps with seeding and possibly hosting round 1. Also for Moline, the memory that Sterling kept the Maroons out of the play offs last season. This should be a good one, but I think Moline eventually overwhelms the Golden Warriors.

Prediction: Moline by 2 touchdowns

Geneseo (4-4) @ Rock Island (1-7): Last season Rocky won 15-12. Geneseo’s entire season boils down to this last game. Win and you are probably in…lose and you’re hanging up the helmets on Monday. For Geneseo, they need consistency if they are going to win and both the offense and defense has sputtered and failed off and on this season. For Rock Island, well, it’s one last game for the seniors and a chance to end a bad season on a high note. Between Geneseo’s urgency and how flat Rocky looked last week, I think the Leafs get that fifth win.

Prediction: Geneseo by 2 touchdowns

Galesburg (1-7) @ United Township (3-5): Last season UT won 63-46. UT’s season has been one of heartbreak with the amount of one possession games they have lost. Even with a win, I don’t think UT has the points to get in, but a win would cap off a season of improvement for the Panthers. For Galesburg, it’s been a rough season and I hope they haven’t packed it in and can put one full game together to send the seniors out on a high note.

Prediction: UT by 17

BONUS!

Monmouth-Roseville (7-1) @ Sterling Newman (7-1): Very rarely does it work out where the two champions of a split conference meet at the end of the season. We get it here though!!! The champion of the Rock and the champion of the Mississippi meet up in Sterling to figure out who the out right champion of the Three Rivers conference will be! Rare stuff, enjoy it while we get it!

Rock Falls (1-8) @ Winnebago (1-8): Two teams. One night. Zero on the field wins (both received a forfeit win from Rockford Christian). Someone is ending the season with the DUB!! Personally I hope it’s Rock Falls…

CPL Pick 'Em Week 9. CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK BABY!

"The Autumn Wind is a pirate.
Blustering in from sea,
With a rollicking song, he sweeps along,
Swaggering boisterously."
- The Autumn Wind, Raider's Anthem

Can you believe it is week 9? Come on! We were just enjoying Chicago summer and 4:30 starts in Hot Thursday CPL Action! Now it's fall, and the 3:30 starts are upon us to avoid games ending due to darkness. We also have the hottest slate of CPL games in a long time! Championships on the line! Batten down the hatches matey! We get a championship game a day!

Mather vs Sullivan - Thursday 3:30
It's a battle for the CPL White North Conference! Sullivan at 6-0 in conference, Mather at 5-1. When I think Mather, I think hot dogs. Wolfy's is right across Peterson from Mather, and I'm not sure there was ever a time that I haven't stopped when I'm driving by. In fact, there have been at least 3 times that I can remember where I was at Wolfy's, saw that there was a football game going on at the park in front of Mather, then walked over, with my hot dogs, and caught some JV football. The best hot dog around Sullivan is at Burger Bite, which is in the Devon Shell, next door to Devon Hardware. It's a legit dog, but it's at a burger joint, so.... Hold on. This is for a championship....This is a 3:30 Thursday start...IT DOESN'T MATHER WHO THE RANGERS ARE PLAYING!
MATHER!

Taft vs Whitney Young - Friday 7:00
Two 6-0 Teams in the Chicago Red Conference. This one is at the remodeled Rockne Stadium. You know I'll be hitting up the Steak n Egger before this one. I'm feeling lucky, so there is a hot chance that I might hammer down a Deep Fried Chicken Dinner. and go crazy on the slot machines. If things really are going well, I might not get across the street until halftime! Shoot, I might have a full steak n egger breakfast with my winnings before heading over! No worries either, since Rockne has the best stadium bathrooms in all of the CPL! Taft has been a contender for titles in the CPL for awhile. Whitney Young's mascot is the Dolphins. Sorry kids, Halloween is next week.
TAFT!

Simeon vs Morgan Park - Saturday 1:00
Two More 6-0 Teams in the Chicago Red Conference. Yeah, I know, it's a bit confusing, but CPL made this conference 18 teams, so the winner of this one will share with the winner of the Taft v WY game. I know it's shocking, but when I think of Gately Stadium, I think of Gately Dogs! Best hot dog in the CPL. Come to think of it, Gately also reminds me of the dudes that used to get there early on Saturday, park in that field on the north side of the stadium up against the fence, then BBQ all day and watch football. Damn shame that CPS built that new indoor track and put the baseball field there. Nothing beat sitting in the stands and smelling that BBQ. Simeon is blue and gold. Morgan Park is green and white, but they wear those pumpkin orange helmets. What did I say earlier? Sorry kids, Halloween is next week.
SIMEON!

6 HUGE games in the CCL

Did they lie to ISBE?
That’s where IHSA gets enrollment info from

Did they lie to ISBE?

Honestly I have been trying to figure it out, listed on state site 844 coed students, even if it’s locked in for 2 years 844 doesn’t make sense
Posted on their website and social media
2021-2022 913 coed students
2022-2023 1030 coed students
2023-2024 1100 coed students

6A Seeding Shakeup?

And they are playing this game in the House of Pain, Clyde C Jordan Stadium, an atmosphere that will be rocking for sure!!!
All.... I really like that stadium . Easy in and out. Right next door in the fenced in area is a boat load of fun and sitting in the middle of Flyers fans as the game is being played is pretty cool. Ratsy. P.S, I almost forgot. After the game Big Mama's less then two minutes away....

CS8 - Week 9 (Let's all beg rocketnation to come back edition)

Thank you for this Roamin. Looks good.

I would hate to be an odds-maker for the Rocket/Cyc game. Too much unpredictable play on the part of both teams. SHG has continually improved throughout the season, whereas RHS is still trying to find its groove.

I suppose if I had a gun to my head and had to pick, I'd take the Rockets by a score since they're at home, but don't be surprised if both teams enter the playoffs at 6-3.
