CS8 - Week 9 (Let's all beg rocketnation to come back edition)

Preferably, the tallest chair(s) allowed within the Rocket complex. Better yet, tis the season, go get you a bargain/used/cheapy deer stand and get cozy up against a tree nearby. Or, as a buddy of mine makes a habit of, just go park yourself in the home (Rocket) bleachers. General admission means you can sit wherever the heck you please. 🤣
All.... I think you got the gist of what I was saying. But those other remedies work as well. Ratsy

Kudos to the Marian Catholic Spartans

Kudos to Marian Catholic.

They are having another losing season (their 13th in the last 14). They could have called it quits after getting spanked last week by Providence, not played in week 9, taken their forfeit win against DLS, and finished at 3-6. Instead, they are chartering busses and going over 100 miles after school on Friday to play an 8-1 Rochelle squad that has been knocking the snot out of its last four opponents since dropping their lone loss of the season to 9-0 Sycamore.

I would have made Rochelle come to me for that beat down.

6A Seeding Shakeup?

I cannot say the IHSA never makes minor exceptions, but having taken a little bit of time looking at past brackets it seems to me it is done very strictly based on the latitude of the actual high school building. Take last year's 2A bracket as an example. Maroa-Forsyth High School naturally takes students from both of those communities. The football team was assigned to the northern bracket. The Athens football team was assigned to the southern bracket. Maroa is north of Athens, but Forsyth is south of Athens. Since the actual high school building for Maroa-Forsyth is located in Maroa (which is north of Athens), Maroa-Forsyth High School was assigned to the northern bracket.

For your purposes, I think your best bet is to assign the high schools to the northern or southern brackets based strictly on the latitude of the high school building.
You are correct. If trying to predict north/south, use latitude line. It doesn’t matter if there are 8 undefeated teams in one half and none in the other.

For some reason, I’m remembering a past year where a small tweak in 2A or 3A might have occurred, due to a school out towards Macomb or something, but maybe that’s just me getting older and more forgetful.

MMXXIV Edition - CCL-ESCC Predictions Week IX

Some big spreads this week. I think a few games will be much closer than the computer tells us.

BR -17 vs Iggy. The Wolfpack will be one of the better teams in state to miss out on the playoffs. The fact that they are in the Blue over Rita and Marist is still pretty funny to me. They haven't even had a football program for 20 years! Crusaders will be a tough out in 7A. Crusaders 35-7.

LA +10 vs MC. Caravan quelled any notions of Fenwick being a top dog in the CCL. Ramblers have been on a rampage with five straight wins over quality opponents. I think Loyola's defense makes the trek to the Southside and captures the Blue crown. Loyola 14-10.

IC +14 vs Rita. Playoffs on the line for the Knights. I think Rita is a MUCH better team, but something tells me that things get weird here as IC throws the kitchen sink at the Mustangs. Rita 37-28.

Naz -22 vs WSF. The Nazareth wagon rolls on. Who can stop them in 5A? WSF has won three straight but looked vulnerable in all three (IC, Marian, DePaul). They show any signs of vulnerability here and they'll be down 21+ in the blink of an eye. Roadrunners 48-20.

ND +35 vs Marist. Dons get the upset win and get in at 4-5. Or something like that. ND 21-20. (ha)

Providence +21 vs JCA. Way too big of a spread for a rivalry game with the underdog fighting for its playoff life. JCA 24-21.

Viator -10 vs Pat's. Disappointing seasons for both schools. Will be licking their wounds and ready for next year (or the Prep Bowl?). Viator 28-14.

DePaul -7 vs Benet. In it's last four weeks, Benet has given up 48 (to Mt. Carmel), 30 (to Pat's), 42 (to Fenwick) and 62 (to Naz). The Redwing defense has some serious issues. And DePaul can put up some points. Look out for the Rams to make a nice run in 4A! DePaul 35-20.

Marmion -17 vs Leo. Cadets need a win to get in. Leo has been shut out in three of its last four games. Cadets 31-7.

Marian +37 vs Rochelle. Good on the Spartans for getting a DLS replacement game. Tough that it's against a state title contender. I think they put up some fight. Program has pride. Rochelle 35-14.

StL +13 vs Montini. The question asked every week...."How's Larry's health?" Wonder if they rest up one more week and get ready for a 4A run. I'm going to assume they give this one a go against a 3A title threat. Excited to see both of these squads in the playoffs. Broncos 21-14.

Fenwick -21 vs CoM. Disappointing season for the Corsairs. Friars finish a strong 7-2 with only losses being a 1-point loss to JCA and to Mt. Carmel. Will be a tough out in 6A. Fenwick 45-20.

6A Seeding Shakeup?

Any idea how the IHSA defines the North/South (by latitude? county?, etc). I've been creating/posting projected brackets in another thread & would update 1-6A accordingly if I know how to assign North/South.

If the PLAYOFFS started today.... (Week 9)

Yeah, it was Alexander that said they had semifinal potential.
If they got a favorable bracket…I could see it happening.

Most years in 8a…no way. But this isn’t most years and 8a isn’t what it has been.

They could be one and done or they could win a few games.

Regardless, I don’t think anyone blows them out.
