Any thoughts? Lots of great stories from this past weekend. MC had a 4 time champion, ND had a state champ, Washington had 4 guys win!

Two state champions from Joliet, and neither were from JCA. Both West and Central had a champion in 3A. Nice to see. The Hilltoppers had a handful of placers in 3A, but no champions this year. Agree that this may be Marist's year to win it all.

I would say somewhere between 7-10? New Jersey, Ohio, Iowa, Pennsylvania, California, Oklahoma are probably all ahead of Illinois.
I would go top 5 or 6, all I could find was from 2017.

IL is clear 2-6 depending on the year.

CA really good up top, zero depth
I am always shocked at how many national kids CA has, then I realize how many kids in general they have and it makes sense.

They do have some strong communities and areas for sure.

Heeg is only a freshman. His brother, who is a junior, won the 190 lb division in 2A for Lemont. Pretty impressive

Calcutta lost in the finals to Charles Walker from Joliet Central.

Mt. Carmel's Seth Mendoza is the 16th four-time Illinois High School Association wrestling champion, winning the 138-pound final of the Class 3A individual state meet in Champaign last Saturday,. He's headed to the University of Missouri

I weigh 140, so if I spit in a cup all day, I could make weight and wrestle Seth Mendoza, who would put a serious hurt on me.

MC beats Marist 34-33. Score was tied 33 all and MC was awarded a point for unsportsmanlike conduct against Marist to give them the win😳

I'm not real familiar with wrestling. What happened in that situation that would cause an unsportsmanlike conduct call ? It seems pretty extreme

I mean Uof I has 27 out of 36 wrestlers from Illinois and are ranked 14th in the country.
Yeah but yearly the best wrestlers in Illinois aren’t going to Illinois. Davino- Ohio state, Mendoza- mizzou. They did get Aaron Stewart and Will Denny though. We will see if they get noble or munaretto.

Calcutt losing was a massive upset. Kid is nationally ranked and accepted scholarship to nc state for wrestling. He was so dominant this year that he hadn’t gone theee periods often. Got gassed and walker took advantage.

It has taken a generation or two, but the entire state is now embracing wrestling, as opposed to the North.
IMO- Pennsylvania is clear number 1 and it’s not even close. Then maybe NJ, Ohio, california and Illinois. Iowa and Oklahoma right there too.

I thought Denny is NC State...

No hand shake is the word
I heard thrown headgear but either way it's a hard way to lose, this was Marist year. I also heard their 113 didn't make weight and they didn't have a backup ready so that was forfeited so MC got 6 and 113 is not one of their stud wrestlers. Had MC lost the 190 match was a heartbreaker. MC wrestler was in total command and the Marist wrestler threw him for a pin with 8 seconds left.
