I know many of the programs represented here have some top notch wrestlers and wrestling programs, with state champs this weekend who should we be looking for?

Fenwick Super Frosh Jacob Kaminski, who started at DE for 7a semi finalist, has advanced to the Quarterfinals tomorrow at 195 lb division. Jacob is 20-0 on the season and has won the Catholic League as well as a Regional and Sectional.

What are big time football players are participating? Matches can be watched live on NFHS and can be followed on trackwrestling.com

Aurora Christian has 3 freshmen going to state. It is the 1st year of the wrestling program at AC. They've got a tiger by the tail over there and the future looks bright building around these three freshmen. Nice article in the paper... http://www.chicagotribune.com/subur...-aurora-christian-st-0216-20170215-story.html

"Johnson (31-0) and Marshall (28-2) both won titles last weekend at the Class 1A Byron Sectional. Villarreal (30-3), ranked first in state most of the season by IllinoisMatmen.com, placed third."

Austin O`Connor (Chicago, St. Rita) won by major decision 20-7 in the 152 lb. weight class. It's O'Connor 4th state title to go with is 4 CCL titles. He was undefeated the last two years and had a high school record of 181-4. He joins former St. Rita standout Albert White as one of only 15 wrestlers who have won 4 state titles. Austin O'Connor will attending North Carolina next year.

Someone told me he's the only wrestler in Illinois history to win 9 consecutive (4 IHSA and 5 IKWF) just an unreal career.

From the Chgo Tribune:

The St. Rita senior won 10 state titles at various divisions before he arrived at St. Rita, and he can describe in great detail the two losses that kept him from earning two more.

Those defeats came when he was 4 and 5 years old.

LOL! TL--Austin's the #1 Wrestler in the nation, correct?

3rd in the world makes you #1 in the country
Cassioppi can make an argument as well
He is the best heavy that I have ever seen. A great wrestler who beat a very good group of heavyweights with ease. Never saw the third period!
This is taking nothing away from O-C. He is outstanding. Although I don't believe he is ranked #1 in his weight class nationally.

Won state at 152. I found where he was #1 at 145 a couple of weeks ago. NC is getting a good kid. New head coach next year is going to start with a bang. Supposed to have a great in-coming freshmen class. SR won a couple of State Championships with Albert White. Maybe they will be back in contention in a couple of years.
