I know they have been a huge disappoint, but now that Flus is gone, I’m going with the Bears 😉
I would second with East Side. They didn't even play their best -- more penatlties than usual for this year's team -- and still won by 20.
Probably ESL. But I'd put a healthy Mount Carmel up against anyone. That was one hell of a playoff run by MC.
If ESL played Geneva like it did IMG, it would have been even uglier. Their pass rush was more relentless against IMG.
ESL beat LA who beat MC 7a winner
Only loss was to #6 in the nation IMG

It’s really difficult to say, considering Loyola is a vastly different football team than they were in week one against ESL, and Mount Carmel is a vastly different football team than they were in week 9 against Loyola. Those points aside, ESL beat the 8A champ convincingly, the same 8A champ that beat the 7A champ convincingly. I don’t know who would win head to head right now, but would be unfair not to pick ESL based on what we know.

If you look through the classes and how they dealt with the power run game (Warren's run) then I think so
ESL with only loss to IMG would be 1 - then Loyola followed by MC, then LWE, then Naz, then York, then Geneva
Naz played York a few years ago and it didn’t go well. Big difference between 5A and 8A. Look at how Oswego handled JCA. Naperville Central is probably above Naz too. Could Naz have beaten Maine South? LT?
ESL. I attended the LA game and most LA games all season. I know LA improved over the season but while I think they would play them closer I believe ESL is the superior team and would again win.
So you think Naz would beat York? Naperville Central? LT? My bad, it was last year. Seemed longer ago. Naz was defending and future state champs and they lost to York 42-13. 8A is a different beast.
Naz played York last year 2023. Rough game and noticeable differences between players and physicality. I don’t think Naz would fare well against LT or MS.
Top 5a and 6a teams can beat top 7a and 8a teams for one game.
Montini beat Loyola, Maine South. ESL and Palatine at their peak.
The problem comes in beating larger enrollment teams week after week with there not being as much team depth as the larger schools.
