3 teams from the same conference were playing for 3rd consecutive championships? Or the last time a conference had 6 teams playing for championships scattered throughout 5 classes and probably favored in every one of those games?

That is pretty impressive!

Good god man. We’ve gone an entire playoff season without this topic flaring up too bad. Don’t poke.

Two teams that played each other this season playing in a rematch of last year too! That’s gotta be close to first time ever

4th straight year of MC v Batavia. 3rd straight year York vs LA. 2nd straight Naz v jca.

If CG pulled it out, 3 of 4 years vs ESL.

Just further proof that Illinois is very top heavy when it comes to football talent.
Generally I get your point, but I don’t know if the LWE Loyola game supports that sentiment. There really is no way that LWE should have lost tonight with all their talent. I think it may just speak to the experience of the coaches and the attitudes of their programs. Just my thoughts.

My comment was in response to PowerI mentioning all the rematches, not necessarily this specific game.

Other fun facts... LAs last playoff loss was to Lockport in 2021 in the championship game. MC hasn't lost to a public school in the playoffs since the Nubin game in 201*8. Batavia has only lost to two teams in the playoffs the last 7 years (Naz and MC). ESL hasn't lost in the playoffs to a team (not counting the FF season) not called CG or MC since 2014.

MC didn’t lose in 2019.

Another random fact...Richards came to ESL and beat ESL 7-6 in the semis in '13. Since then they have played 4x in the playoffs (all at CCJ) and ESL has outscored them 233-0.

What’s interesting is York gave LA fits last year however, everyone is acting as if the game is won next week. Interesting take.
Nope
You have to play the game. Matchups mean everything. On paper yes but that’s the reason you play the games. Same thing with ESL Geneva game . You never know. I would have never thought CC would have won the last 2 years. I would never have thought East would lose the last 4 years. It’s HS and nothing is a certain.

Lockport beat Loyola in the Semis in '21

The classes are getting watered down

Less classes equals more competitive games and an undeniable #1 in the state
No that happens because we aren't 1-32 at all classes. It happens regardless of sport or level anyway.

Honestly they should do something weird like 4 open classes that are opt in only and play a traditional state series, all seeded 1-32 on a modified playoff point metric and classed by a modernized football enrollment. Multiplier fine, but no success factors.

Then everyone else splits into 8 team regions / 32 team districts and plays a shortened regional playoff system for a district championship. More overall football for everyone. Schools can self sort into the serious football schools. Less watered down classes playing for state championships. If not enough schools opt into open classes go down as many classes as needed to get to roughly a 64:1 ratio.
