With all the traditional complaints that Public and Private should be separate, here is a look at who knocked MC out of the playoffs since 1986, which was Coach Lenti's first State Championship game.

1986- Wheaton North in the Championship

1987- East St. Louis- semifinal

1988-1991 MC State Champs

1992- JCA semifinals

1993- De La Salle

1994- Rita

1995- Maine South in the Championship

1996- State Champions

1997- Rock Island

1998-2000- State Champions

2001- Hinsdale South (no misprint South not Central) 2nd round

2002- State Champions

2003- Glenbard South 1st round (not a misprint, South, not North)

2004- Providence semifinals

2005- Prospect in Championship game

2006- WWS in Championship game

2007- Glenbard North in Semifinals

2008- Hinsdale Central semifinal

2009- Loyola

2010- Maine South in Championship

2011- Bolingbrook in 2nd round

2012-13- Won State

2014- Providence

2015- Glenbard West

2016- Didn't make the playoffs 😮

2017- Lake Zurich semifinal

2018- St. Charles North- Semifinal

2019- State Champions

2020- FU Covid

2021- Br. Rice quarters **BR lost to Wheaton North in the Semi and then Wheaton North beat Rita in the State Championship, minimal complaints that year of the Public/Private**

2022-2023- State Champs

So 15 Public Schools, 7 Private have knocked out the Caravan. So over double the amount. It can done, it has been done numerous times and it may be done today, gotta play the game. And the games that the Public Schools beat MC were some outstanding games! While I'm at the point where I wouldn't complain with there was a Public/Private split and I wouldn't vote for it, it's taking away some great possibilities of great future football games. Change the seedings based on strength of schedule and you will see some great finals!!

This is funny! Good stuff. Thanks for the research.

Problem was MC's weak schedule that year. Iron Sharpens Iron.
That wasn't the Caravan losing to them in 1974, but yes Iron normally sharpens Iron....but not in South Elgins case with Barrington as they actually lost to them worse the second time then they did the first this season, but in most cases it does.

You just proved my point. Thank you. How about the Hinsdale South loss season? Weak schedule? What about Prospect? See? My point is talent matters, schedule overrated, unless you meet the talent minimum to win state. No knock on MC, just proving a point. Thanks.

How about Quincy? 22-0 in the past two years, never trailed in a game this season. Record breaking QB, numerous all conference players. Met MC in the quarters in 2023 and lost 61-14 and SR in the quarters this year and lost 42-14. Why? Because their schedule was a joke, they were never challenged and when they met a team from a strong conference that is tested weekly they showed them they aren't as good as they thought they were. Strength of schedule matters and plays a huge part. Think what you want though and we can agree to disagree

My friend, and I mean that, Quincy lost to MC the same reason everyone else loses to MC...talent. MC has a QB going to Vandy, and a DE going to USC. Those are upper level players. They make plays. Quincy has had an amazing run, but at some point you are met with the indisputable fact that talent wins. It's why MC has been good for 50 years. Look at this years Title games. Who won? Teams with elite talent.

This!

It’s laughable to think that Batavia didn’t prepare enough or play in a tough enough conference. (The common response to the debate is prepare better/play tougher schedule)

At the end of the day, talent wins. What was the difference when BR beat MC a few times in row a few years ago? Talent.

Why did Hun beat MC this year? Talent.

The talent is typically a little more spread out throughout BR/MC/RITA as to where it’s more fair for public schools but no one’s had a chance vs MC for three years now.

No reason they shouldn’t be in 8A.

Realistically, MC ducked 8A to spread the titles out with Loyola. Smart move in principle but cowardly.
