State Champ Predications

You got 3-7 correct.
1A is the return of the NUIC
2A is Wilmo (unless they go 3A)
8A is Loyola.

Chalk is boring, I know, but it’s effective.
I saw Coach Schott at the grocery store and he is excited for the season with all of the talent Althoff has.

Althoff has enough depth to have true platoons.

I told him I am egging Frazier’s house if we do not win state. He said he might come with me and that he has been gone long enough to be critical. Jokingly of course.

The Crusaders are 2A for sure?
I thought they were 2A a couple years ago and 1A last year?
They definitely have some talent on that squad and will be a force in whatever class they end up in.

1A - Camp Point

2A - Althoff

3A - Byron

4A - Rochester

5A - St. Francis

6A - East St. Louis

7A - Mt. Carmel

8A - Edwardsville

1A - Camp Point- same old same old.

2A - Althoff why not?

3A - Byron should be up to the task.

4A - Rochester easy road and another title. Rockets won’t be challenged unless they move up a class or two.

5A - St. Francis until someone else proves otherwise.

6A - Cary Grove until ESL finds a defense that can stop the Cary Grove run.

7A - Mt. Carmel Clear favorite. Should play in 8A this year but will definitely be moved up next year.

8A - LWE Griffins have a QB and are loaded. I think they finally get by Loyola.

1A- same old same old? Huh? Camp Point won their first ever title last year. LeWin won the previous 4.

5A- St. Francis' only title was in '08. Did you mean Naz?

I think Le-Win will regain their rightful spot. They have the "Eye of the Tiger" this season. 8A belongs to LA.

You’re so right. Someone is going to get upset. My money will be on LWE this year even with all those recruited players LA has. 😊
You are correct. Upsets and injuries are a big part of the playoff picture, but I'm picking the teams with the best chance to win it all at the moment. Will I go 8 for 8? Doubtful.

This is NOT an 8A roster. Not even close. But it is a damned good 3-and-under roster.
The key is there anyone on their schedule that can give them that NUIC/Camp Point type of offense game? They aren't going to see spread offenses in the 1 or 2A bracket. Wilmington and Camp Point havn't passed in 2 years, and they still win every game they play. Althoff has to figure out the defensive side.

Althoff @ CPC 2023

Althoff opening drive, CPC blocks punt, CPC recovered on the 1 yd line. 2pt conv good.
CPC kicks off, Althoff fumbles, CPC recovers. CPC scores from inside the 10. 2 pt conv good.
16-0 CPC. 2 minutes into the game.
Althoff driving, picked off in the endzone. CPC marches down, scores, 2 pt conv good.
24-0 Camp Point, 1st qtr
Next kickoff, onside, recovered by CPC.
Few plays later, pass over the middle, TD CPC. 2 pt conv failed.
30-0 CPC, 1st qtr.

Got to 36-0 early in the 2nd half I believe. Another fumble lost by Althoff early in 2nd half.

Sounds to me like CP didn't buy in to the Althoff hype. That's what they call getting taken out behind the woodshed

I was watching from the endzone where the carnage took place. Their locals were interesting to say the least. Aside from "running out" of food for us, the endzone gents really had to pause when speaking. "With all of your .... um, athletes .... we hope to keep it close." "Wow, with all of your ... er, athletes ... I cannot believe this is happening." "Jeeze, our little farm boys sure are hanging there with all of the ... athletes ... ya'all have."

LOL I'm sure they were very entertaining to listen to. I saw the title game. CP didn't look "little" to me 😂

I was simply implying that Alhoff have a lot to figure out in terms of discipline, awareness, and just generally need to be better at the small things if they want to compete and beat the likes of these small town schools who consider playing you (Althoff) as their super bowl. That's as good as it'll ever get for Camp Point that day. That was the ultimate moment for them and they captured it, ran with it, and never looked back.

Now, as for the fine folks of Camp Point, Clayton, Columbus, Golden, Coatsburg, Paloma, and any I've missed that make up the Central school district... can't speak on them. They're a breed to themselves and I won't go rambling on about them. I'm not familiar with much of it. But yeah, they're different... And as far as anything else goes... I'll just put this in here, there's an "unincorporated community" probably appropriately named "Blacks" within the Central school district lines. Just a couple miles east of the campus I believe. It's no Brooklyn, IL, but I think it was named for a reason is all I'm saying.

Guessing knocking off LeWin for their first title was a bigger moment for Camp Point.
Fair. I should have worded more in depth... I meant for the people of Camp Point, and for an event to be taking place in Camp Point, Illinos... that's as big as it'll get. The title was awfully special for them I'm sure. They earned it. But in fairness, at the time, that was the biggest moment in that program's history and they did what was needed, and then some.

The school was literally in the middle of a farm field. It was after harvest on a beautiful fall afternoon. The entire effing town was there - just a TERRIFIC atmosphere and a gorgeous vista. In the middle of it, the hometown boys beat the snot out of the big-city athletes.
