Somebody’s big mad in Antioch…and it’s only Friday

Plenty of public schools can compete. I really thought this was Lincoln Way East’s year personally. Then again Lincoln Way does take and seek transfers who only transfer for football so not really a traditional public. Not knocking them I root for them don’t get me wrong. Just not really the same as most public schools.

My only fear with further private school domination is our big private boys in the state, Loyola/Mount Carmel…Will start to think of the state title as an afterthought and focus more on national schedule. Although it would be fun to see us compete nationally, we don’t want the state title games to be watered down. The state title should be the end all be all biggest game of the year for all teams. It’s still that way now. I just hope it stays that way. Mount Carmel in 8A next year will go a long way towards that. 8A champ will have to get through at least 2 of LWE/MC/Loyola next year. Somebody’s got to get knocked down a peg and that’s a good thing.

OHHHH - aside from Dixon himself harping during semi-final week about playing Althoff, he said we were a one-man show and that all they needed to was shut down Dierre. That made the first play from scrimmage, a qb run for 60 and a TD, very sweet.

Last year, one of their chain gang members, situated on the Althoff/visitors' side as per custom, dropped the N word. He was ejected. The remainder of the game, the gang was salty and getting in the way of folks = players and coaches - on the sidelines.

ESTL plays a national schedule and doesn’t see the state title as an afterthought im sure these programs would think the same especially with the history behind them

He broke out the map and Jack thanked him!
That’s map is small compared to Jackie Robinson West Little League pool they had kids come in to play for them lol. My little league was in District 15 with West Lawn who had many cops kids playing for them. Many attended Private Schools that played on West Lawn. I was at the Sectional & rooting on West Lawn in the 12 year old tournament. One of the friends(who was a police officer) of the West Lawn dad who had son playing said what is that kid for Jackie Robinson doing playing in a 12 tournament? He said he was 15 years old & he arrested him for armed robbery a few before. He went to his car & came back showed the mug shot of him. They reported JRW but nothing was done

Maybe not anymore since Cary Grove. But I mean didn’t their coach two years ago say verbatim that they can’t find competition in the state so they go elsewhere? If so, that’s the start of it.

I hope the refs wrote up that they ejected a member of the chain crew for that.

I hope Althoff did as well.

I don't believe he said it's hard to find competition in the state. But hard to schedule ooc games in general. The last 2 years they had neutral sites vs Loyola and mc. Prior to that it's been NC, NV, Batavia etc all on the road. Id guess it's been 10 years since they had a home non con game vs a team from illinois

So your cop friend is openly sharing juvenile records? That's fun!

LOL LWE said they'd rather play Kankakee

Looks like they hosted Provi in 2017?

If you can read what I said was the cop was a friend of the dad having a kid on the West Lawn team. I was 12. This was back in 83
Oh, my fault. I should learn how to read this very clear sentence: "One of the friends(who was a police officer) of the West Lawn dad who had son playing said what is that kid for Jackie Robinson doing playing in a 12 tournament?" Anywho, still weird he was carrying around and openly sharing the mugshot of a minor. Carry on!

SunTimes on Jack Elliott from Jordan Lynch:

“He’s a winner,’’ Lynch said. ‘‘Every kid at Mount Carmel is recruited to Mount Carmel. I remember watching Jack in seventh and eighth grade. I haven’t seen a leader like that on the field. He’s a perfect fit for Mount Carmel. It’s special to have a kid like that. Kids like him come around every 15 years or so.”

I'm not saying this is a "fix" per se, because it results in a bit of a yoyo effect, but I think we will see the success factor/multiplier in action BIG time next year. This year was a bit of a perfect storm for privates, especially at the lower levels:

  • Althoff having a generation talent and no multiplier
  • DePaul benefitting from the timing of their meteoric growth vs the second year of an enrollment cycle
  • Montini to a lesser extent than DePaul, but same phenomenon
  • MC moving up softens the 7a field quite a bit next year

I haven't done a super deep dive, but I wouldn't be surprised if we see ~3 privates win state next year. That said, I guess you can never count out a Benet/Fenwick/Iggy without a multiplier to make a big run, as has happened in the past.

I agree with the overall tenor of your post, but don't forget, the next two year cycle has schools like Rice and Marist not being multiplied and dropping down a class or two. They could just replace some of the private schools moving up a class.

The big question is do Marist and Rice petition up?
Does Rita petition up again?

Is SR not 7A when multiplied? You’re the 3rd or 4th person to mention them petitioning up. I thought they were 7A when multiplied and they should be multiplied the next 2 year cycle due to winning 3 playoff games over the last 2 years?

very valid point... that's the nature of the CCL I guess... as soon as one get's knocked down, another is waiting in the wings!

Good point...
Multiplied, St. Rita's enrollment for the past two-year cycle which ended Saturday, was 1,603. The two lowest enrollment schools in 7A this year were Fenwick and Pekin at 1,820. Last season, St. Rita petitioned up to 7A. By rule, it is a two-year commitment. St. Rita's IHSA enrollment of 1,603 would have made them the 7th largest 6A school of this year's playoff qualifiers. St. Rita did receive the multiplier waiver in 2019 and participated in 5A. Their multiplied enrollment puts them probably squarely in 6A for next year. I do not know if the program will petition up to 7A for the upcoming 2025 and 2026 seasons.

You should that’s willing to play ESL. Only PC and Montini has played a home and home with ESL. Covid messed up NV and NC coming to ESL but both were willing and scheduled to come. The rest of the state, mainly the privates who dominate refuse to take on the challenge of a home and home. That is why it’s difficult to find games in the state.

Wasn't Batavia planning a trip to ESL pre-covid?
