This question is in no way supposed to start a fight or argument but is a legitimate question during the off-season.

What happened to Benet Academy football?

My former teammates and I were having a conversation about seasons past and the Redwings came up.

Back when we played Geneva didn’t lose much and nobody (except Morris occasionally) beat us in back-to-back years.

Benet beat Geneva handily the two years they played and then kinda, sorta, “disappeared.”

Pat Donnelly was in my UI recruiting class so followed him through school but why is it Benet no longer makes any waves in the playoffs? They used to be a powerhouse…..sort of what Montini and Naz are today.

I don’t understand CCL recruiting territories so are other schools taking talent or is it something else.

P.S. I was in school during their 100+ game home basketball winning streak. Amazing accomplishment so not trying to be a d*ck.

Nothing really. They went 7-4, lost in the second round, beat State Champion DePaul in week 9. They had a couple down years after Covid in 22 and 23 but got back on track this year. Looking back over the past 7 seasons most have gone like this year , 7-4, 8-3 type season. Think once they made the semis. So they have been competitive still. Basketball has been well above average for sure

It would be an amazing accomplishment if it were anywhere close to being true. What in the world are you talking about?

The John Wooden UCLA teams never did that. Kentucky has the record (at 129 I think) and is the only school to ever get above 100.

I honestly have no idea what the school record is for Illinois but I'd be surprised if it was longer than 35 or so games.

From Wikipedia for what it’s worth…

Benet's boys' basketball team has set several state records, including a 102 home-game winning streak between November 26, 1975, and January 24, 1987. The streak ended when Benet lost to Naperville North High School, 47–46.

Oh, he was talking about Benet? I thought he was talking about Illinois...my bad.

I wouldn't have thought that was true about Benet either but I wouldn't know.
