It's time to get serious and figure out who should be the state wide IHSA Player of the Year.

Post those worthy candidates here and also provide any stats etc if known.

Are you sure on that number? He's averaging 283 yards rushing per game? That would be one of the greatest rushing seasons in IHSA history with a chance to break the all time record if PR plays two more games.
I just pulled that from the Daily Herald. He’s rushed for over 300 yards in the last 3 games.

Very impressive. As I stated, he is on course to break the single season rushing record in the state of Illinois. Hard not to make him player of the year with those stats.

Is it just me or is this year's player of the year NOT going to be a household name? I feel like there have been 1-2 players that stood out as big names. I'd venture to bet most people haven't heard of Prospect QB and Vasey from PR.

Clear favorite should be Blainey Dowling. Leader of the #1 team in the State who made enormous strides from last season, and most importantly against quality opponents. He’s shattered all MC passing records this season. 2,000 plus yards passing for 31 TDs, 5 rushing TDs, 2 Ints. Here is his numbers vs the Blue and other ranked teams.

St. Rita- 5 TD passes
Marist- 4 TD passes
BR- 2 TD passing, 1 rushing, 300 + yards passing
LA- 3 TD passes, 1 TD rushing.

Again, these are quality ranked opponents all still alive in the playoffs. He had big games vs ND and Iggy as well, who are both still alive in the playoffs.

Improvements made from 2021 to 2022 shows he put the work in. Lawless Award Winner of the CCL Blue. Compared to last years Player of the Year Jack Lausch he is right on par, Lausch had better rushing yards but Blainey has better passing, TDs and fewer INTs. Plus he was in the bench at half due to blowouts many times. More importantly he lead them to 9-0 vs a schedule where 8 of 9 teams made the playoffs and 6 are still playing. Give it to him @EdgyTim he earned it!

Blainey has a 74% completion rate with 1883 rushing yards for the regular season!

Really great arguments for many players but it really comes down to what the definition is for MVP? if it’s about most valuable player overall you have to give it to SCN Sturgis, but if your looking for offense stats against top competition then MC Blainey
Sorry to be biased with Surges. I think this post sums it up pretty well. Blainey and Surges are just that good. It’s very rare that any team could ever have a player of their caliber at ANY time.

We all might get the treat of watching these two play against each other in the very near future… maybe!

And here we go.......My apologies to the rest of the board for having to wake up the Catholics this morning, lol. The age old debate of Player of the Year versus Most Valuable Player. People need to put aside their bias for the schools or religion that they follow and use your head in this argument. I use the word argument lightly because this is a no brainer. Dowling is surrounded by studs on his entire team offensively and defensively Vasey does not have that if you look at Prairie Ridge defensive numbers this year. Could Dowling put up the numbers that Vasey has if he was running that Prairie Ridge offense? I'm gonna say no but the problem is we will never know. Player the Year is all about statistics and it only helps that his team is doing exceedingly well. In the big picture a bunch of washed up old men like ourselves our opinions don't matter, but that's the fun of this board. For once I'd like to see some sensible responses. The world does not revolve around the Catholic league football programs, granted they are fantastic but we are talking about a player of the year, not a team of the year and not the quarterback for the best team in the state. Stats matter and so do breaking state records. Put down the wine and wafers my Catholic compatriots, watch some Vasey game film and have a come to Jesus moment with me!

Where do I start? Well, first off, your acting like Vasey plays for a program having a Cinderella season out of nowhere...he plays for Prairie Ridge...State Champions in 2011, 2016, 2017 and runners up in 2019...they are machine. They also had a well deserved POY in Samson Evans, who was the National Gatorade, Sun Times, and Edgy Tim POY. Look for the last time MC had a POY, you may have to go back to Tony Furjanic in 1980....So again not a program overlooked in favor of the CCL in any way, shape, or form.

Vasey is having an amazing year and playoff run. Your suggesting that just because Dowling is the QB on the #1 team that people think he should be handed the award based off that. You do know that he has thrown for 38 TDs, ran for 6 and added over 3,000 combined passing and rushing yards against 8 teams that made the playoffs, 5 that made the quarters and 3 that are still alive in the Semi Finals? Marist was an OT away from probably being in the semis as well. He’s a stud, and he’s having remarkable season. And yes he has excellent players around him, but how many of his receivers have any offers? None. It’s absolutely ridiculous and I pray it changes but they don’t have any offers. 1 of their OL is a D1 commit and he’s been out the last 2 games, the rest have no major offers. The defense is amazing but MC isn’t winning games 14-3 and 7-0, the defense is doing their job, and the offense is doing theirs and Blainey is leading them.

And it’s very obvious to all who have watched the last few games he’s playing hurt...and when they tried to take him out, he literally with his hurt arm waived off the Coach and refused to come out....he’s a tough as they come. Hand him this honor!
In the name of the Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Do you have any biases or is it just "the Catholics?" LOL.

It's ironic to me, that you are coming off as having a "holier than thou" attitude.

You probably hate being "preached" to, but yet, you have just concluded a great sermon!

To second Tincup1215: it's either Surges-Vasey or Dowling.
