Notice served! Defense wins championships !!!

JAYDEN EVANS RUNS BACK KICK TO BARRINGTON 9 YD. LINE. FAGER TAKES IT IN.

JUST A RIDICULOUS END TO FIRST HALF GAVE BARRINGTON A GIFT TOUCHDOWN WITH 4 SECONDS LEFT.. FREAKIN RIDICULOUS!!

Though Santiago went to the trainers room with an injury. Status unknown

Why didn’t the clock keep running? They had no timeouts, correct? Trying to figure out what happened there.

Santiago injured his left bicep. Where things go from here for the playoffs will be determined by the X-rays and the doctors.

That was horribly reffed. Agree with everyone. The head ref on a 3rd down literally tried to call 4th down and the ball was on the yard line and the down marker was behind the line. He didn’t even want to measure. They also gave Barrington for timeouts in the first half. I rewatched the half and yes, they gave them 4 timeouts.

Everyone will be waiting on Santiago. If he’s healthy watch out. Pirates are looking dominant right now. They weee going to run away with it until he got hurt. Barrington had no way to stop them.

This team is more talented than the back to back semifinal teams and are finally playing like it.

Agreed -

At full strength this team will be hard to stop.

How did Palatine get strip sacked, recover it for a loss of 10+, and then get awarded a 1st down when it should’ve been 4th and forever? I was watching the stream and was completely baffled by that one. The fumble for Palatine #19 appeared to be clearly down well before the ball came out as well

The refs sucked @#$%&* tonight. That was just a rare one that went on Palatine's favor. They ruled the ball came out, Barrington had it, then they fumbled and Palatine recovered... it went in my teams favor and I'm still thinking "SMH...."

And the one thing no one's mentioned yet, this is a very young team. Kole Fager, Will Santiago, Jordan Bostick, Ray & Jaeden Gaspard, Tony Balanganayi, Evan Downer, Jayden Evans, Jett Griewe, Joe Reiswig, Jordan Collins, Jaylen Maiden, and Jacari Travis ALL return next year. We do have some huge losses like Jaylen Williams, Trey Widlowski, Jackson Brown, Jacob Stark, Jesse Blake Jr., Parker Brault and Ryan Donnely - but we should still be very strong, especially offensively.

Luckily it's not his throwing arm.

I had acid flashbacks to Zach Oles going down in 2016....he broke his collarbone on his throwing shoulder.
I can see Oles running against Notre Dame HS in the 1st Round and attempting to run over a defensive back. He went down and on that play their chance to make PHS Football history (win a state title) ended.

Quietest I’ve ever heard a stadium in my entire life. To this day any time a team I’m involved with plays a bad team I tell them to watch out for guys getting angry after they start getting their butts kicked. That’s what happened. Oles trucked the nd safety, and as he’s falling backwards he hip tosses him onto his collar bone. Man that was brutal. Very similar to when dersnah got hurt two years ago. Man pirates have had some bad injury luck to qbs.

Not an indictment. Jacob being a high rated D1 prospect. It's a high bar to clear
Definitely not saying it’s an indictment. Just saying if he grows a few more inches you may see a major prospect.

I was gonna say - I think Jordan is better than Jacob - I even mentioned this to his father in the stands and he agreed. He's been hurt the last two games, hopefully he'll be good for the playoffs.

He just hasn't had the growth spurt his brother did. He's insanely quick, aggressive and confident and if he gets anywhere near his brother's size he'll be unstoppable. Additionally he, Santiago and Fager are really super close friends, work together really well on the field( go watch Bostick's or Santi's sophomore highlights in Hudl if you wanna see too many TDs to count), and are always pushing each other.

The last two times Palatine went 8-1, both loses were 1 pt losses on last second two-point conversions. Basically 2 points away from being 9-0 two of last three seasons.

Without Oles in 2016 they still got to the semi-finals against Maine South, but it was an insanely windy day and Maine South put monsters on their d-line to stop the run and basically said "hey, try and beat us with the pass". It was 14-7 MS at the start of the 4th and then our backup QB threw two picks trying to throw into 30 to 40 MPH gusts.

In 2022, Dersnah went down in Week 4, Palatine made it to the quarterfinals. Led 10-7 going into 4th quarter against York. I think if Dersnah were healthy that game they have more than a 3 pt lead going into the 4th and possibly it turns out differently? York was really good, but we competed until the mid 4th quarter and maybe with Dersnah it makes a different - he was really good and his HS career was cut short (again, by what seems to be a questionable tackle).

You make a lot of excuses for Palatine losses. I hope the do play LWE. Love to hear the excuses for getting taking to the wood shed.

I am a Palatine homer - I have my biases, fully admitted. I hope they get a chance to be "taken to the wood shed" by LWE because that means they made it to the semi-finals if #5, or the state championship if #6 - I'd take either one :)

I don’t know if he’s making excuses. I would say he’s saying an All State qb broke his collar bone in 2016, and a kid who was playing at an all state level broke his leg in 2022. Both of them were the best players on the team and likely the conference. What he’s saying is if they were both playing, the playoff games would have likely been different. I don’t know if Palatine would’ve won those games, but the high powered offense would have been better against those excellent teams. Excuses would be “we just didn’t play well, coaches made bad calls, refs were bad, the ints were lucky plays”.

Injuries happen, I get that, but when your best player, at qb mind you, gets injured your team will not be the same.

I get LWE would probably kill Palatine, good for them. Loyola was supposed to do the same to Palatine in 2015 in the semis, Palatine lost 24-22, and if I remember correctly, they couldn’t convert a 2 pt conversion to tie it. You play the games for a reason. Again, I know LWE would kill them, but crazier things have happened. Don’t know what the point of trashing Palatine is in a Barrington Palatine thread. They could certainly make some noise in the playoffs if the QB is healthy. Good luck to all in the playoffs.

Yeah, what he said - more so lamenting what could have been.

Ironically, when Palatine took 2nd place in 5A back in 1994, they had an all-state QB who got hurt just before the playoffs, and the sophomore QB came up to varsity and lead them to the title game before they lost to Providence.

The thing is, DT is an excellent quarterback - he was just a little rusty last night since he's been playing safety the last two years. But he was the QB that lead this senior squad to a 17-1 record over their first two seasons.

If the sequence of events you describe happened, that it was correct to give Palatine the first down because there’s a change of possession. Did Barrington actually recover it then fumble it though?

Let’s hope the three MSL West 8A teams go deep in the playoffs!

I could be wrong, but I think there were a few instances of LWE losing a stud QB and that changing the potential championship team. Once in the finals and maybe once in the semis? I think it's fair to question what could have been and have faith in what the team was leading up to that point. The only fact is that we will truly never know.

If only facts instead of opinions were on this forum, it would not be very active.

Nope, Barrington was never even close to having it. That’s what made it such a head scratcher

I thought it should’ve been 4th down. According to the refs it was a change of possession. I rewatched multiple times and I can’t see the possession. Either way a horribly reffed game both ways.

Yeah. as it turns out a Barrington guy actually recovered, ran a few yards with the ball, got hit and re-fumbled, and a Palatine guy recovered.
