Carmel posters are from Mundeline OR Southside of the City?I have heard people say they “went to Carmel”. Immediately I am thinking Carmel Mundeline. Not Mount Carmel… only to find out I was dead wrong. Which in most cases is fact.

So what is it? Someone shine some light on who is who

Mt. Carmel was founded in 1900; Carmel of Mundelein about 60 years later.

Mt Carmel is generally referred to as "Carmel" by students, alums and practically everyone else on the South Side or in the catholic League.

When Carmel in Mundelein was founded, the priests figured it was so far away that there would never be any confusion.

Wrong!

As the,Edgy board grew and expanded, there were far fewer Mundelein guys than those from Chicago. As a result, if referring to the school in the north suburbs, the writer ususally said Carmel (M). This was a point of contention for their people who thought we should add Mount whenever we referred to our school.

In any event, Carmel (M)'s football fortunes have declned over the past few years and the school is seldom mentioned, here. The problem seemed to solve itself.

Note that Carmel (M) is co-ed while Mt Carmel is all boys. Mundelein's colors are brown and gold. Mine are brown and white.
Brown is a significant color in the Carmelite tradition.

MC or C of M is what many posters here use.

Any alumni in their right mind will refer to their Alma Mater as they respectfully should....Saint Rita, Brother Rice, Mount Carmel, Joliet Catholic, etc.
Knowing that most of us are rarely in our right minds it becomes Rita, Rice, Carmel, Catholic High, etc.

When Ray Meyer (yes, that Ray Meyer) spoke of his coaching days at JCA, he pronounced it as "Jolly-ett."

Mount Carmel, IL was founded in 1815. That's a whole 85 years before the other. What drama!
There are about 20 high schools in this country containing the words "Mount Carmel" in their name. Even more so for churches, hospitals cemeteries and municipalities.

Fun fact. It's actually illegal to pronounce it wrong. That's a $5 fine

Ray's estate is down about ten grand.

In referring to DePaul and the stress of being a coach, he'd say, "It's tough when your mortgage is in the hands of 19-year olds. Then he'd say, "Of course, when I was at Jolly-ett ... if I had a mortgage, it would have bee in the hands of 16-year olds."

There’s a guy that only recognizes the charter members of the CCL. There are only 4 left. And back then they were called St.Cyril. So….I’m gonna say Carmel of Mundelein should be recognized as the real Carmel. All the Arch real estate is up there so I’m going with them😂
