Apparently Gambletron doesn't believe in "Keep Hope Alive" but rather Blowout Week in CCLESCC-landia. Even my beloved are 10-point dogs and they haven't even seen that spooky mansion lurking behind the Caravan stands. The kids from the Heights get to travel 100 miles for a game, maybe pickup a few pumpkins, run around a corn maze. The only one-score game on the board is ... Benet? Hmm.

Some big spreads this week. I think a few games will be much closer than the computer tells us.

BR -17 vs Iggy. The Wolfpack will be one of the better teams in state to miss out on the playoffs. The fact that they are in the Blue over Rita and Marist is still pretty funny to me. They haven't even had a football program for 20 years! Crusaders will be a tough out in 7A. Crusaders 35-7.

LA +10 vs MC. Caravan quelled any notions of Fenwick being a top dog in the CCL. Ramblers have been on a rampage with five straight wins over quality opponents. I think Loyola's defense makes the trek to the Southside and captures the Blue crown. Loyola 14-10.

IC +14 vs Rita. Playoffs on the line for the Knights. I think Rita is a MUCH better team, but something tells me that things get weird here as IC throws the kitchen sink at the Mustangs. Rita 37-28.

Naz -22 vs WSF. The Nazareth wagon rolls on. Who can stop them in 5A? WSF has won three straight but looked vulnerable in all three (IC, Marian, DePaul). They show any signs of vulnerability here and they'll be down 21+ in the blink of an eye. Roadrunners 48-20.

ND +35 vs Marist. Dons get the upset win and get in at 4-5. Or something like that. ND 21-20. (ha)

Providence +21 vs JCA. Way too big of a spread for a rivalry game with the underdog fighting for its playoff life. JCA 24-21.

Viator -10 vs Pat's. Disappointing seasons for both schools. Will be licking their wounds and ready for next year (or the Prep Bowl?). Viator 28-14.

DePaul -7 vs Benet. In it's last four weeks, Benet has given up 48 (to Mt. Carmel), 30 (to Pat's), 42 (to Fenwick) and 62 (to Naz). The Redwing defense has some serious issues. And DePaul can put up some points. Look out for the Rams to make a nice run in 4A! DePaul 35-20.

Marmion -17 vs Leo. Cadets need a win to get in. Leo has been shut out in three of its last four games. Cadets 31-7.

Marian +37 vs Rochelle. Good on the Spartans for getting a DLS replacement game. Tough that it's against a state title contender. I think they put up some fight. Program has pride. Rochelle 35-14.

StL +13 vs Montini. The question asked every week...."How's Larry's health?" Wonder if they rest up one more week and get ready for a 4A run. I'm going to assume they give this one a go against a 3A title threat. Excited to see both of these squads in the playoffs. Broncos 21-14.

Fenwick -21 vs CoM. Disappointing season for the Corsairs. Friars finish a strong 7-2 with only losses being a 1-point loss to JCA and to Mt. Carmel. Will be a tough out in 6A. Fenwick 45-20.

Watched a lot of SF the last 2 days. They’re a lot better than the line is giving them credit for. I don’t get the sense these teams like each other much, this game will be close and Francis will be ready to play.

22 POINTS?! Does gambletron not remember what happened in week 9 last year?! There are a few Franny guys here that can remind us but I will beat them to it and just say... 3 scores on Naz's home field, aka the coronation game.

If anything I think it should be Franny giving the obligatory 3 points as a home team.

Thought I would put the season long standings right here. Will the newcomer @k1867 take down the old salt @3OrangeWhips ? Will @tuccs or @pjjp pull off the 4th quarter come back of the century? Good Luck to all. Remember after the regular season winner(s) is determined, the playoffs crown starts us all off at zero and still time to grab the 14 week crown.

Francis games are on NFHS. I watched them on hudl so not 100% sure if you can go back and rewatch Francis’ other games but I did watch their DePaul game on Saturday so hopefully you can. I imagine some of their road games are on YouTube as well.

Man if only my homer heart would have let me take the other side of those ridiculous spreads.

Brother Rice 31 Saint Ignatius 20 (+17): Ignatius is a good team, but their schedule was just too much to overcome.

Mount Carmel 38 (-10) Loyola 27: GOTW! The Caravan want to prove a point heading into the playoffs and this is an ideal opportunity.

Saint Rita 34 (-14) Immaculate Conception 16: The Ponies are just too much in this game

Nazareth 38 Saint Francis 25 (+22): While Naz is the superior team and will win, I just think this spread is a bit much

Marist 42 (-35) Notre Dame 0: Nothing to see here

Joliet Catholic 35 Providence Catholic 21 (+21): Providence does not die easily. Big rivalry, at home, and for the playoffs. Wouldn't surprise me if this is close entering the 4th quarter

Saint Pat's 20 (+10) Saint Viator 17: The disappointment bowl. Both teams are winless since week 3.

DePaul 45 (-7) Benet 24: Benet can't stop anyone

Marmion 24 Leo 12 (+17): Marmion returns to the playoffs!

Rochelle 35 Marian, Heights 10 (+37): While Heights gets the cover, I can see Rochelle coaching staff challenging their boys to make a statement against a Catholic team

Montini 27 Saint Laurence 21 (+11): Byron losing to Montini will get the yearly tradition of the public vs private debate going

Fenwick 38 Carmel 20 (+21): Every year, there are surprises and disappointments, but Carmel at 3-6 is one of the more shocking outcomes in a while.

How about 9 straight weeks of excellent weather! Be in a stadium this Friday night! Not many opportunities left!

They usually take down the full game film on Hudl beginning of the next week, DePaul game is still up FYI.

That’s the most interesting commentary you have given this year. Going for the regular season crown, and that’s all you give us is your picks? No drama? No smack talk? No histrionics? No dazzling the crowd with your infamous knowledge and wit? Just the picks?

I might just pull for the rookie k18 this week.

With my 2022 Poster of the Year trophy already on the mantel, my focus this season has purely been on winning the prediction 👑.

Life would be complete allowing me to retire @3OrangeWhips and start a Marist burner account.

And seeing that I missed Marian Catholic at Rochelle was a Thu night game (in which I’d like to make a point of parliamentary procedure), I’m already down 1 to @k1867.

Go Ramblers +10
Go Spartans +22

Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice, pray for me.

The Hangover Movie reference… Now I’ve been the hardest on the Wolfpack this year but that’s only because of where the conference put them. I think they match up well vs Brother Rice and will cover.

The Good old Allman Brothers Boys Band’s hit song reference The Ramblin’ Men stay within a score vs the Caravan. Both excellent programs’ mascots refer to traveling in some fashion. Times of great epiphanies like this one I just had after watching CCL football for 52 years of my life makes me miss the Weber Red Horde.

Roy Hobbs’ eventual major league team. Fun fact about stalking: Ruth Ann Steinhagen shot the Cubs 1st baseman Eddie Waitkus in a Philly hotel room and was the inspiration behind Bernard Malamud’s novel The Natural. Ruth was so obsessed with Eddie, the teenager left a plate of dinner out for him on her family’s table.

Blue D men. Always love the story of why DePaul University ‘s mascot is the Blue Demons. I thought it clever.

My pick’s school motto is Deeds not words. @ignazio can convert that into Latin for those that only read school mottos in Latin.

Spartans. But Rochelle being known as Hub City reminds me of when UIC was the only college named after or with an interchange in its name, University of Illinois at Circle or Circle Campus. But I guess University of Illinois at Chicago has more reach to the outside world that I do not belong to.

Segredos. It’s always hard to think about St. Rita losing the great Jim Segredo to Montini 25ish years ago. Watching St. Rita football in the 70s meant St. Rita v St. Laurence. 15-20k at Soldier Field. Great memories

Corsair. Finally, the end. This post is dedicated to @stonedlizard who I saw pop back onto the board this week. St. Liz was always the king and OG of the irreverent connection. One had to think laterally and robustly to understand his written whims. So with picking the Corsairs, I get to end my picks of the week with one of my bring-the-house down jokes:

Once I was a pirate for Halloween. I went up to a house and a kind, old lady said “Oh, how cute, a pirate! Where are your buccaneers?” I said “On the side of my buckin’ head lady”.

The conference didn't put them in the blue, they put themselves in the blue with their success over the past few years and beating MC hurt them in the long run. Enrollment numbers went up, football participation numbers went up and they have been successful. This is how teams move around in the conference. The conference doesn't just pull teams out of a hat and throw them into divisions.

Have their enrollment number gone up? They have always had high enrollment, probably one of the largest enrollments in the CCL. But now they are subject to the multiplier so they are 8A instead of 6A. I am sure that played a factor into them being in the blue as well.

All that and I still don’t know the price of tea in China. What I do know is Marist, St. Ignatius, Fenwick and Immaculate Conception were misplaced. Maybe they should try a hat.

What is your suggestion on where all these teams should go? You have Naz who is near the bottom of enrollment and playing in the 2nd best division. You can't do an eyeball test because that changes every year and lower-level players haven't played varsity yet to determine which teams should move.

The first thing they need to do is get a backbone with Legacy school, home of Lawless, Fenwick and place them correctly. That fixes 75% of it

Multiplier has nothing to do with where teams are placed in each division. It is all based on conference success, enrollment numbers and football numbers.

Congratulations to BnR for taking the week 9 crown. A consistent participant with a tough year, ends the regular season on a high note. We go back down to 0 for 0 when the playoffs start this week so hopefully BnR rides this late season momentum into the playoff season. And hopefully we see some old standbys come back in to battle for the playoff crown.

Congratulations to all our weekly winners:

And Congratulations to a fan favorite, @3OrangeWhips , for the regular season crown. Please keep an eye on your front porch for your Coach Qued signed coaching shorts that are good to wear down to 15 degrees days and nights. Even though both of our top competitors choked, you choked less. I knew @k1867 palms were sweaty making the picks because he's a rookie and I knew 3ow was sweaty making his picks because he's just a sweaty guy, But very exciting stuff gentlepersons. Thank you for the entertainment.

And remember, call your sons, call your daughters, call your friends, call your neighbors and get them in on our playoff pick 'em contest. I want the biggest one yet. I want @McCaravan back, @BoundaryCorner back, I even want my favorite St, Francis Spartan backers @DMurph11 and @SiuCubFan8 back. Let's. Get. It. On! See you Wednesday Edgy Fam.
