La 56-7. But Kudos Rockets.

Kickoff taken to the house.
LA nearly pick six in first D series. Ball at the Rocket … wait, flag on the play.
First LA play up the guy goes 30. The next goes four. Now first and goal ball at the three.

Touchdown.
There is something very weird here, these 3 posts were made BEFORE the 3:00p game time and before the LIVE video started at 3:00p. But they appear to be sort of accurate.

I was thinking as much… I don’t think Rochester has kicked off. Therefore no KO return. Admittedly I haven’t been following super closely. My brisket is almost at temperature.
Not watching the game, but I have to assume that this means Loyola is a legit top title contender this year or that this is quite a down Rochester squad.
I know this was a short and weird week so you can’t draw many conclusions. But that Rochester team that ran Rita off the field would not have been run off the field by any 7A/8A team back in 2019. In fact, they likely could have beaten any team in the state at any class on any given day.

to those watching, is this Rochester miscues and LA fortuitous bounces and rolls? Or is this Rochester with a little speed off their fastball? Or is it just Loyola being the best team in the entire Midwest?

IMO Rochester does not have a QB like they normally do. Using the WR as a QB tells you all you need to know.

I’m not familiar enough with the larger classes to have authority to comment on where Loyola ranks among the top of the state or the entire Midwest, but they look pretty damn solid.
Based on what I’ve seen Loyola is dominant up front. Completely disrupting Rochester’s offense and getting chunk plays when they have possession. Typically when Rochester goes against the better teams they are involved in a shootout. Loyola’s D is not allowing that to happen.

@rocketnation correct me if I am wrong or have misremembered but I think the 2019 Rockets had 3 crucial things that made that year really standout:
1) Size and athleticism on both lines
2) Beatty’s future is bright but 2019 QB Clay Bruno was incredibly perfect for Coach Leonard’s system
3) And one of my favorite players that some may not understand how good he was, was the RB Durocher, a junior at the time. Easy 5yds a carry behind that big OLine with his low pad level, forward lean, quiet feet and toughness.

Missing those components leave some surprised at this result but comparing the two teams 2019 Rocket version to 2021 is unfair. But saying that, no one will be eager to face these Rockets in 4A/5A come late October, November, especially with this experience under their belt as tough as it is to take now.

Yes but 2019 4A 5A bubble Rochester rolled a real good st Rita. And would have been competitive with and even possibly defeats any of their upper level CCL peers. That squad wouldn’t have been running clocked by a single team in the state. So if we can remove the short weird week, which I know we can’t, this result tells me something is different.

All.... Chatham beat the Rockets in week nine of the regular season (2019) 56-26. The Titans that year were class 6A. Ratsy

That’s true. Football is a weird game sometimes. Hard to compare scores especially given the circumstances of this game.

and that Rita team was very good but still had losses to Montini and Loyola and I think even a close one to richards. But still, they could compete with any CCL team and Rochester was just thoroughly impressive against them. But it’s all about individual matchups, like your Chatham example proves.

Disagree. This is the most predictable outcome ever. It's why I argue so hard against ranking lower class teams amongst the top 8A teams unless they have beaten them.

Terrible announcers and terrible camera movement but picture is great.
They are high school kids, guy. Take it easy. I’ve had no issues with the game broadcast. Good luck to the Rockets this season. They are a fantastic program. They had to travel a great distance with very little time to prepare. Hats off to Rochester. Those are some really good, tough football players. I have to go see them play at home.

Great day to be a Rambler!!!!

I shouldn't be hard on the announcers, but the camera person has never had to follow a pass play before.
Even then. I doubt the camera person has larger than a 3.5" screen to look at while filming. Harder than you'd think

All good points. Didn’t see the game, out of state for a wedding. Good timing as it turns out. Ouch. 2 more observations. 1-The 2019 team was Senior dominated with many two-year starters who had played 25+ varsity games before facing St Rita. 2-Hank can’t pass to himself. There isn’t a go to receiver yet that scares good defenses. Sounds like our receivers couldn’t get separation before the rush got to Hank.

With no dog in the fight I was impartial and hoped for a good/better game. Congratulations to Loyola on a dominating win with little time to prepare. Kudos to Rochester for taking on the challenge.

When reading the Sun Times article this morning I just shook my head when I read what is pasted below:

“…. pride may have gone a step too far on Saturday afternoon. The Rockets made a show of planting their flag on Loyola’s logo at midfield just before the start of the game. That might not sound like a huge deal, but the Loyola players were still referencing the slight three hours later. “That gave us some energy for sure,” Loyola quarterback Jake Stearney said. “We are thankful they came all the way up here to play us but that thing on the logo got us fired up for sure.”

Per the article Derek Leonard later said “I didn’t come here for respect. I thought we had a chance. We didn’t play good and they beat our butts.”

So the tried and true lesson of respecting your opponent is what earns you respect does not matter here.

In 2011 Derek Leonard’s father brought his SHG to Joliet for a Semi-Final game and with a similar swagger his team pulled the same pre-game flag planting stunt. For the first time ever a Running Clock was put on his Cyclones in a 49-7 loss.

A family tradition? Something in the water around Springfield? Lessons lost?

Maybe it was like the moon landing and they planted the flag just to say they were there. SMH.
