IC 25 - SF 14 Final

What's the outcome of IC vs. Reed Custer?
My initial thoughts based on tonight's IC game vs. SF. IC has the coaching advantage which also leads to the discipline advantage (the Comets commit way too many penalties). RC the advantage in the trenches. One thing concerns me though. IC is going to bring speed/pressure off the edges and Im curious to see how the RC offense handles it. RC the advantage at QB. The rest of the skill players match up extremely well. The RC defense needs to know where #14 is at all times and TACKLE him. When that kid gets the ball in space, he makes people miss! The IC defense needs to spy McPherson. He is just as deadly running as he is throwing. Special teams pretty even as both teams have lots of speed and can take it to the house at any time.

Needs it's own thread, but i think it will come in due time.

Based on tonight and tonight only, factoring in only skill, RC is the favorite. That being said, a game between them and IC may have 300 yards in penalties

I watched the last 3 quarters of this game, admittedly on NFHS. And my response was "Really? These are the terrors of the North that we've been hearing about?" Aside from two nice looking runs from IC, I couldn't see it. And even on those two plays, only a few SF players were moving toward the ball. The rest seemed to shrug and say "it's not coming my way" and just stood flat footed and watched.

I don't know the yardage but aside from a few plays, IC'S running seemed average and their passing was only effective at the end of the first half when the SF d-backs were playing way off the line in what was clearly a prevent defense. And SF seemed to spend the whole second half going backwards. At least two "drives" went from first downs deep in the red zone to 4th and 40.

SF's punter has a cannon for a leg, but only one direction- straight down field. 50 yard punts mean more when the ball goes out inside the ten, otherwise they're just average punts to the 20.

I honestly wondered at several points if one or both teams were sandbagging to try to mislead scouts who might have been at the game.

I am definitely not counting out SF in 4A. if anything they impressed me with how they moved the ball early on. I have no idea what was with all the penalties.. this was the most penalties I’ve ever seen in a game. Does SF usually have a lot of penalties or is this more an outlier?
Against Riv-Brook last week, SF was off side probably 6-7 times along with several holding penalties, so reading this thread has not surprised me. They definitely have talent but it seemed from the plays that I saw, that SF QB was holding the ball to long and took several sacks.
It’s been an issue.

Who called them the terrors of the north? iC likely is a terror in 3a just because there are likely only a few 3a schools that will stack up with them: they can lose but they are clearly one of the best 3a teams.

SF is an up and coming program. Sounds like they didn’t show well last night. They are still likely one of the 4 or 5 best 4a teams from the 16 team north bracket. I think they were hoping to be one of the top 2 or 3. After their first and only test of the season last night it sounds like they are more like the 4th or 5th most dangerous team in a very deep 4a north.

I’d say Sterling was a test.
SF gave the game away but IC took it and didn’t look back. SF can beat anyone in 4A, still dangerous but we will see. Very interested to see the pairings.

I agree they can still win.

I believe what some of our friends from the south are hearing is “the north has terrors that the south can’t hang with.”

what most from the north are actually suggesting is that there is a very large quantity of teams that can all compete with each other, making it a meat grinder. Nobody has more than a 35 percent chance to make it out. We can all predict with 87 percent probability who is coming out of the south.

87%? I’d say 99%
