Hilltoppers 48 City High 13 Final

Where is the pass defense?
In the 1st half JCA's pass defense was pretty bad. I'm not sure if guys were out of position or not fast enough, but it got better in the 2nd half.

The D-line and LB's were good, as we knew they would be. The D backfield needs a little practice.

Their d backfield has been like that for years, hopefully they’ll find a way to tighten it up!!

The last 3-4 years JCA's D backfield was one of their biggest strengths. Ever since Jaws took over as Head Coach he has really concentrated on the D backfield.

Since their 2018 title run, defensive backs have been the most stellar area of the defense. Some really stout players in Mundo Meyer, Jabril Williams, Kurt Weis, Malachi Hood, and quite a few others. Heck, the only reason Montini lost the title game in 2018 was because they kept throwing into the strength of JC's defense and threw an INT when driving to go up 14 late in the third. Had they kept pounding the weaker DL and LB's, Montini seals that game in the third quarter.

I don't know if they have that talent level there this year. The first half pass defense gave up a handful of "where is the defense?" type plays. but I am sure they will get back to figuring out if it was a missed assignment or a personnel mismatch and get it righted soon.

As bad as the secondary played in the first half their performance was stellar in the second.
