Hilltoppers 0 Oswego 17 FINAL nm

I knew this game was going to be a measuring stick for how the entire season will go. Well the measuring stick does not have anything good to say for JCA.

Either it says:
1) Oswego is extremely good and championship caliber.
OR
2) JCA will win between 2 and 4 games this year. 4 wins would be best possible outcome.

How many false start penalties for JCA?

Definitely not #2. It is in the middle. Oswego quite good. Not sure about 7A/8A contender, but could make a decent run.

Oswego has executed the field position game flawlessly and JC has not fielded kickoffs well to allow that to be exacerbated. Of the first 17 points, it was one long, good drive and one broken play that scored their first two touchdowns.

The offense needs to get it together, but I don't think this game says either of the two things you suggest.

We haven't seen the true double wing for some time. Lots of I with one wing, which has less motion. Curious what the coaches saw this week to merit going back to the double wing and putting guys in motion. It has definitely hurt the JC offense as the motions are where the false starts come in.

All things being equal I prefer the I with a wing and minimal motion to the double wing.

Was hoping for 1 and 1 going into the Fenwick game. That is now a must win. Gotta protect the QB in passing and they have to catch the ball. More QB draws/runs might be of benefit. No speed in the backfield
pure power. Expect 4-5 wins. Sneak into playoffs. By then, the offense may be more diverse. Defense is good.

If they lose at home to 2-0 Fenwick, wheee do the other 3-4 wins come from? Will be very difficult…

Like I said above, either Oswego is very very good, like >Quarter Finals 8A / >Semi Finals 7A, or I don't see more than 4 wins Max on JCA's schedule.

Kevin, they will not be the same team Week #9.
Many a team has turned the corner in the heart of the regular season.
Oswego is a fundamentally sound team, and that was the difference last night.
They are a good team, but one that was held scoreless in the 2nd half with most 2nd Half possessions starting with a relatively short field.
I hope that the Fenwick and Marist games up next reveal a better, more heady version of the Hilltoppers.

There is another thread that talked about the last time JCA was shut out.

The last time they were shut out, it was a total drubbing by IC in 2018 by the score of 42-0.
JCA won the 5A title that year. I wouldn't panic yet.
