Caravan 6 Marmion 0 4Q....6min left Upset Alert?

6-0 it is. Marmion held tough. Good thing they were 4-0 prior to game. They still have a gauntlet to get to 6-3. But they'll get in at 5-4 also no problem.

Field was pig slop, neither team could do much, players slipping all over...ugly win for MC but I’ll take it. Marmion has some tough kids for sure!! That field though was like Chicago Park District bad...

I’m glad we don’t wager on our predictions. Would have lost the house on this one. Thou my coaching buddies say Marmion is one of those schools that may be out manned on occasion have a never quit attitude.

Question for MC or all those other schools that have artificial turf fields. When playing a school that has a natural grass field do you practice that week of real grass or still practice in the artificial stuff? The kids seem to have specialty shoes for the artificial stuff. Do the shoes have replaceable spikes? Do the kids have a 2nd set of shoes or do they just make due with what they have?

The field turned to mud, shoes make little difference at that point.
Idk if 3 days of practicing on grass before a game would make much difference either. Probably disrupt routine more than anything.

Back in the days you had turf shoes for the Astro Turf type fields and you had Grass Cleats. Now you just have one that is made for field turf and natural turf and usually works well on both, but today's field condition was extraordinarily bad. 80 % of the field was complete slop by the second quarter.

To answer your question on practice, no they don't practice on grass if they are facing a team with natural surface, because like I mentioned the shoes they have normally work fine on grass fields but today they would have had to practice on a pig farm to simulate the field conditions.....but that's football, it happens, MC was lucky to come out on top.

Molded cleats vs screw ins generally. Molded don't work as well on grass. I always suggest having screw in cleats with replacements just in case you lose a few

Montini practices on grass if they have a gale on the real stuff.

Screw on cleats with multiple lengths for mid games. I didn’t see the field but I’ve seen games where 2” cleats wouldn’t matter based on field conditions and mud.
