His window may have closed, but dammit, he was peeping in, and might deserve to be there.
So fun to watch and had a great career, but not a HOFer
I want to agree with you, but I don't see how he gets in. The numbers just aren't there. I want him to get in, but he had a little over 5,000 yards rushing in his career. That's not going to get it done. It's the HOF, not the hall of really good.
We'll try to make a case for him because he's from Illinois but I just don't see it. Hope I'm wrong.
There are a surprising amount of RBs in with less yards than Alstott. Including Bronco Nagurski and Paul Hornung
He's not even one of the 15 finalists this year. Outstanding career, the best player at his FB position during his time but the FB position doesn't hold a lot of weight with the NFL. It's probably easier to get in as a Kicker then a FB. Tom Rathman and Moose Johnston aren't even in the HOF. It's unfortunate because the NFL HOF isn't as exclusive as the MLB HOF to get admittance by for certain positions it is.
Still I liked watching him and he might eventually have a shot like Alstott. These guys might have to wait awhile.
McNabb did win state in '91 with Simeon Rice and Matt Cushing. And Jim Kelly is in the HOF but never won a Super Bowl.
