Raiders travel to Grayslake to face a Rams team coming off of a 7-4 record and a 2nd round playoff birth. Should be a good one up in Wisconsin to start the season.

That’s the way to kick off the season. I love seeing teams that haven’t played each other before. Should be interesting game.
👍

Is there a Grayslake in Wisconsin? What is it near?
I think he is saying it’s close to Wisconsin. 15 miles south of the Wisconsin border. I could be wrong but I don’t think they have ever played each other. Regardless should be interesting.

Uh...............the guess here is that it won't be a good one up near the Wisconsin border in Week 1.
Actually, the interesting aspect of this matchup has to be why the game is being played. I know zip about Bolingbrook other than they are a huge Class 8A school that plays in a league with mighty Lincoln-Way East. What I know about Grayslake Central is that they play in one of the weakest football conferences in the Chicago area for schools that size, which in the case of. Grayslake Central is about 1,350.
Last fall, both schools played non-league games against Chicago Public League Teams. Bolingbrook challenged and lost a close game to 9-0 Simeon. Grayslake Central hung a running clock on 0-9 Chicago Hubbard.
History ... Grayslake Central has never won more than 1 playoff game in any given playoff season, and they've only had 7 playoff seasons in 45-plus years whether as Grayslake Central or Grayslake High before Grayslake North opened.
The Rams went 4-3 and finished fourth in the in the weak eight-team Northern Lake County Conference last year en route to a 6-3 season. The losses in league play were to Antioch, Grayslake North and Wauconda by a combined 71 points.
So, while it's obviously May and anything can happen in terms of transfers and injuries and amazing player improvement between the end of last year and the start of 2023, let's just say that if this turns out to be a "good one," then the person who wrote those two words is the person I want making picks for me for the entire 2023 season.

Like you with the Brook I know dick about Grayslake. I just like teams willing to to step out and play each other. I believe I saw a 2A team playing a 6A school. Awesome! I love seeing teams taking risks to see where they stand. Total respect. You say Grayslake is in a weak division yet they finished 7-4 and made the playoffs. Give them some credit maybe they deserve it.

Me too. New teams is what makes non con and playoffs so exciting.

Anything let's say north of Hoffman Estates is Wisconsin, no? I bet I'll have no problem finding a Culver's before kickoff. Only question is whether I should fly into Milwaukee or take the Amtrak.

I still have my research to do, but based on this we should all be in agreement already that the Rams will be favored going in.

It's been years, but Grayslake had a decent downtown area

That should turn out as good as Loyola v Rochester.
Two completely different scenarios. Loyola is currently the top program in the state (we'll have to see how the new coach continues the tradition) with numbers, size, talent, coaching, open enrollment, and funding. Rochester while gritty was completely overmatched.

While an 8A public and 6A public are about the same thing. Rams defeated the much larger Round Lake while Raiders lost to the much smaller Simeon.

I'm expecting this to come down to the last possession right now. We'll see if that changes once we get to August.

Enrollment? seriously? Round Lake varsity football has won 15 TOTAL games in the past 15 seasons.
Waukegan is one of the largest schools in the entire state and the Bulldogs have NEVER EVER EVER won a conference game since joining the North Suburban Conference.
Using enrollment to determine quality of opponent is sometimes accurate. In the case of Round Lake, it is completely misguided.
If Grayslake Central is excited about playing Bolingbrook, I have to guess that it's because the Rams need to face some semblance of quality competition in the regular season as its seven-game conference slate has not ever really prepared any of the league teams for a serious playoff run. Eventually, even with 1/16 seeding, the teams get caught facing a Lake Forest or Cary-Grove or Prairie Ridge or a Catholic League team, and that's the ballgame.

All..... If they played in 2022 projections. Ratsy

Calpreps - Bolingbrook 50 Central 21 (97%)

Massey - Bolingbrook 48 Central 14 (91%)

Is GLC getting some money to play this game?? This will be over at the coin toss. You can't use 2022 projections because GLC had one threat last year and he graduated. I personally think Moloney bolted because he knew what's coming for them. Maybe the new coach will have something up his sleeve, but the are a mediocre 6a team on their best day. This will be ugly.

I digress. This will be more like Illinois State v Wisconsin. But props for GC to take the challenge.

@Cross Bones Heard from reliable source West Aurora jumping out of SPC and Brook is poised to leave SWSC to take that SPC spot...you hear anything?
I have heard this about West Aurora (there's some discussion on the pay side). I have not heard that Brook is jumping to get out of the SWSC. But historically had fielded inquiries about the DVC for football only.

However, any time there is a shakeup in the SPC, DVC, or WSC I would think Brook would be the logical invite given the location. Personally I would NOT like a jump to the SPC with their limited non con games and over abundance of games I don't think would be competitive. Plus how close are the Oswegos and Minooka really compared to LWE and HF?

As for me, I got from NN to Brook in 15 mins with no traffic one night last week. I'm just saying.

I was surprised to learn that I was able to take a left on to Rand Rd. and the next time I turn, I would be in Wisconsin.

On May 9, 1895, voters formally approved the creation of the Village of Grays Lake. The name would soon become Grayslake and a community was born.

The modern Village of Bolingbrook got its start in the first half of the 1960s when the first builder laid out the first housing tract in the farm fields just north of old U.S. 66 and beside Illinois Route 53

Lookie at all the things you can find on the internet.

One wrong turn and you're in Eau Claire.
This may explain why the Grayslake Central is scheduling this game:

He should bring the 2001 trophy, winner takes it home 😏

There are a few good teams in Lake County, primarily on one side of the NSC, and many amazingly weak ones, just the way it is.

Schools north of I-90 (the Boonies) seem to be doing just find developing talent for the NFL. 6 of the 12 drafted in this years draft.

Lukas Van Ness, Barrington
Cameron Mitchell, Bolingbrook
Zaire Barnes, Carmel (Mundelein)
Charlie Jones, Deerfield
Antonio Johnson, East St. Louis
Sam LaPorta, Highland
John Michael Schmitz, Homewood-Flossmoor (Flossmoor)
Peter Skoronski, Maine South (Park Ridge)
Raymond Vohasek, McHenry
Jayden Reed, Naperville Central (Naperville)
Nick Broeker, Sacred Heart-Griffin (Springfield)
Aidan O'Connell, Stevenson (Lincolnshire)

Oddy, the NSC dissolved (by attrition) 'one' side. Some of those NSC legacy schools helped create the somewhat recent Northern Lake County Conference.

NSC 'Lake' or 'Prairie' no longer exist.

Maybe this will be like the Stevie/HF championship game about a decade ago. That was a helluva game.

I don’t know Bones some of these guys are acting like Grays Lake is the best of crap in a crap conference. I mean where is the fight? I mean if you go into a game saying your crap well you’re going to be crap! Has The Brook ever said they were going to lose before even playing the game? It’s a loser mentality.

Brook will win and win going away….why are we doing this?
Grayslake C was 7-4 and in the 2nd round of the playoffs BEFORE Pealman. Brook was 6-4 and blown out in the 1st rd with a HOF coach, not to mention losing a 4* WR.

I can confidently say I don't think their coach is going into it like that. He has a history of building programs and upsetting even heavy favorites.
