So what is the biggest question facing the 2021 Mount Carmel Caravan this fall? Make sure to check back here daily for new teams and the biggest questions each day leading up to IHSA Fall Football Kickoff.

Team: Mount Carmel Caravan

Biggest Question?

Mount Carmel and head coach Jordan Lynch ended the spring season with a 4-2 record and included losses to Loyola and also Brother Rice. The Caravan also said goodbye to several key multi-year starters and impact players this spring led by QB Justin Lynch (Temple). While no one will ever need to feel bad for the Caravan, who's overall numbers and talent level has never been higher over the past few years...replacing 17 graduated starters is no small task for even the best programs.

The Biggest Question? How long will it take the new faces to adjust and play Mount Carmel football this fall?

The good news is that the Caravan has a deep pool of young talent, but can/will that young talent adjust to playing at the varsity level full time and how quickly will that adjustment happen?

Mount Carmel will need to reload at several spots this summer, starting in many ways (and maybe the biggest question mark of all) under center at quarterback. Senior to be Brandon Rogers is a terrific all around athlete (Oklahoma baseball commit) who has all the tools you'd look for in a dual threat quarterback. Yet Rogers has been recovering from an off season injury and as early as a week or two ago was still not cleared to take part in practices. The Caravan used several different quarterbacks at Naperville North 7on7 and while they all seemed capable, will/has anyone emerged as the go to guy? As of right now I haven't seen that yet. The remaining skills and the offensive line also has holes to fill. Keep an eye on some terrific newcomers in junior WR Jaden Bossie, sophomore RB/DB Darrion Dupree plus sophomore RB/DB Maurice Davis. Senior RB Enzo De Rose is back this season along with senior TE Joey Thompson and both will provide leadership and production. The offensive line? The entire line has graduated while senior OL Ryan Boersma has committed to Missouri for wrestling but is expected to play football this fall. Up and coming junior OL Aidan Duerig has transferred out to Crown Point. Again the Caravan always have talent and are well coached...but this is a ton of talent to recoup this summer.

On the defensive side of the football, the Caravan's biggest loss could very well be longtime defensive coordinator Dave Lenti who has stepped down from his coaching position this summer. Lenti has been a key figure in the Caravan's success over the years. While senior DL Asher Tomaszewski and DL Elliott Lewis are back this fall along with DB Danny Bracewell and junior JT Harris, several names will also need to step up this summer. Keep an eye on junior DT Laquan Battle plus junior DE/OLB Danny Novickas while the upcoming sophomore class has several key athlete types who will be asked to play in the secondary this fall.

So how long will it take the Caravan to gain experience and be CCL Blue battle ready? I'm not sure, but I fully expect this team to be a much better team in Weeks 9 and beyond this fall compared to say Weeks 3-5.
