So what is the biggest question facing the 2021 Marist Redhawks this fall? Make sure to check back here daily for new teams and the biggest questions each day leading up to IHSA Fall Football Kickoff.

Team: Marist Redhawks

Biggest Question?

Marist and head coach Ron Dawczak has been able to keep the Redhawks as one of the state's top Class 8A programs. Marist finished the spring season with a 4-2 record including losses to top ranked Loyola and Mount Carmel. Marist will again play a very solid regular season slate (Curie/Richards plus ESCC/CCL crossover games against Nazareth/Marmion and Montini) and will be preseason ranked in both Chicagoland and Class 8A preseason polls.

The Biggest Question? Can the Redhawks reload at a handful of key spots and make a deep run in 8A this fall?

Marist is in many ways in the same boat this summer as several of the remaining CCL Blue teams this summer. The Redhawks will need to reload at several key spots this summer after graduating 14 starters from the spring squad, with 8 starters lost on the defensive side of the football.

Fortunately for the Redskins this summer, they will have several key starters also back this fall including some key positions. The offense welcomes back senior QB Dontrell Jackson Jr. (Coastal Carolina) who will be a three year starter. Jackson Jr. has continued to make positive strides in his game every season and looks ready for a huge senior season this fall. Also leading the way for Marist will be four returning starters back on the Redhawks offensive line, including senior OL Deuce McGuire (Northwestern). The offensive skills group will feature several new faces, yet keep an eye on up and coming junior WR Ryan Sims who is a big, strong and physical athlete and who has been waiting his chance to crack the varsity lineup this summer.

The defense will no question see some new faces this fall. Keep an eye senior LB Jimmy Rolder, senior DB Sammy Laurencell and senior S Nick Verizoni who are the returning starters this fall on the Redhawks defense. Yes, this will be a less experienced defense this fall but the overall roster. talent level and depth at Marist is still a positive.

So can Marist reload at some key spots and not skip a beat this season? I say yes and this program continues to reload and keep winning at the highest level. The regular season schedule will be strong but not overwhelming especially early, which should allow some less experienced get up to varsity and ESCC/CCL Blue speed just in time for the conference slate.
