53 teams have already clinched a playoff spot.

Will a 4-5 team make the playoffs, especially if the socialist CTU goes on strike against the CPS?

Interesting 6-0 Benton 16 playoff pts.
3-3 St. Rita 40 playoff pts.
3-3 Marist 38 playoff pts.

It would be a sin if any of the CPS schools miss the playoffs due to a strike. I don't see many CPS schools other than Phillips or Simeon going too far but every kid that plays deserves the chance. If there is a strike some 4-5 teams may get into the playoffs.

16% raise offer, but remember if they go on strike it's for the children!

Murphysboro went on strike last Thursday, was 4-1, forfeited this weekend, and if they don't solve it this week they will miss the playoffs because they will not have played 8 games.

Simeon, who started with only 8 games, is in serious trouble already if CPS goes on strike because they had a week 2 bye.

CPS striking would throw everything into disarray...4-5 teams would be likely if no CPS teams qualify if they have to miss two games...

Is it even possible to make the playoffs at 4-5? Thought you had to have 5 wins minimum but didn't realize there might be a stipulation.

You have to play 8 games in order to qualify for the playoffs. If CPS goes on strike and their teams miss two games, none can qualify. What a mess...of course, the main victims would be Simeon & Phillips, but how unfair to the other schools. A quick review of the outlook has 25+ CPS teams with 3 wins right now...

A qualifying conference champion gets in no matter what given they play 8 games...4 wins, even 3 wins...maybe a 6 team conference with a multi-team tie with 3 wins in conference, nobody wins a non-con game...

Top 256 teams qualify. 8 classes with 32 in each bracket. If the CPS goes on strike and the games are not made up it would be hard to come up with 256 teams. And with the new rules about playing in two games in a week making up lost games may be impossible w/o a waiver.

I hate strikes so much  I'm sorry Edgy but strikes are total bullshit!!! So many times have watched Sica teams mostly Richards/Eisenhower/Shepard & Tinley Park/Bremen/Hillcrest/Oak Forest miss out on great seasons because of strikes so so many times.I think even Bloom got hit a time or two, possibly Bloom Trail & Thornton,Thornwood,Thornridge. If the strikes goes on & it cost a school the playoffs I would not go out for football, band, volleyball & other sports that had to forfeit because of the strike. The next year the school would have nothing in the fall.

Is not the whole premise of Public Schools socialist?
BTW, I support their role and the greater good that they serve.
Weekend before last during the long rain/lighting delay my family had over 2hours of down time. Several of the players parents are Chgo police officers. They been without a contract for two years, cannot go on strike by state law, and will not see arbitration till next spring. They need to add the teachers to that state law and give them binding arbitration. Then the strength of their case should prevail if they have facts on their side. Kid should not be pawns.

Southern Illinois River to River Conference Divisions aren't exactly setting the world on fire...

Ohio Division has Benton at 6-0 and 16 playoff point leading, 5-1 West Frankfort at 22 playoff points, and 4-2 Murphysboro at 28 - but Murphysboro is on strike, and they forfeited this weekend to West Frankfort, and they have 0-5 Harrisburg this week if they aren't still on strike...

Mississippi Division has Nashville in the lead at 6-0 and 18 playoff points, DuQuoin at 6-0 and 17, and then Anna-Jonesboro (who went to the semis two years ago) at 2-4 (wins over 0-6 Pinckneyville and 1-5 Metropolis).

Goiing to be kind of hard to know how good these teams are...

SR with the most playoff points of any team in Illinois. They will be battle tested if they get to 5 wins and get in.

I'm gonna say Rita finishes 5-4 at a minimum. They will beat Marian and I think they also beat Benet. Week 9, I give them a good shot to beat NND. Rita is the favorite out of the north in 5A.

Since I am not playing high school football anymore, I can look ahead. Marian will be a running clock.
All I want is a win and stay healthy. Looking past at team will get you upset. It’s homecoming. I’d like to see everyone get some snaps. This is a young team. All of last weeks scoring was by underclassmen. Watching this team develop has been a treat. As Rock states it’s only one game that the team has played four good quarters. Last week’s defense thou reminds me of the 2006 team for four good quarters. The future is bright. I like your enthusiasm but one game at a time please.

But his point stands, as fans we can look ahead to whatever game we want. We are not playing in the game.

SR may get 5 wins but I don't know about the NND game thou. But does Marist get 5 wins? They have 3 wins now and have Nazareth, St. Pat's, and Loyola left .

I think SR goes into the NND with 5 wins. Game at home, I think SR has a legit shot to win.
Marist has a much tougher task. They will beat Pat's. I dont think they beat Loyola and even with the recent history, I have Naz beating them as well.

If a 4-5 team were to make into the playoffs my bet would it would be Marist with all of their playoff points.

Rita opponents currently have 16 wins (two undefeated, Marian w/with 4), Marist 11 wins. Mustangs have 2pt playoff point lead right now. Both are in good shape in it comes down to it

Comparing to a state championship defense after beating a providence team playing some of the game without their really good starting qb is a stretch.

The film tells me Marist is pretty good. It’s at Marist, they need it far worse and they own Naz. Advantage Marist.

Seems they have settled on a QB too, just so happens to be the dynamic one, Naz has had issues with dynamic QB’s in past (well who hasn’t?)

The 2006 team had two NFL players on the DL. This was one game not a 14 game schedule. Was not comparing this one game to that 14 game schedule. You are reading more into that post than there is. The above posts from Rock and myself pointed out that this team has had good games but has not put together four good quarters in the same game. They did against PC. They held PC with no 1st downs in the second half w/o their QB. They also held them also scoreless in the 1st half also and stopped them on a couple of short 4th downs with their QB. On defense, Michael Gaughan posted a gigantic day with 18 total tackles and 3 tackles for a loss. Tramon Lias (8 tackles) and Michael Milton (7 tackles, 1 TFL) provided key defensive efforts for the Mustangs.

This was one of the better defensive efforts SINCE the 2006 team for one game. Hopefully they came play at or near this level for the rest of the season.

I have been trying to read up on the possible Chicago Teachers Union strike.
What seems clear from reading is that Chicago Public Schools WILL remain open should the Union teachers walk. That’s been written in online stories and also implied as the CPS administration has reportedly said that teachers missing days due to a strike will lose pay while out because the days will not be made up. Since there is a state requirement for a certain number of school days in a calendar year, one conclusion to be drawn is that schools will stay open and classes perhaps will be manned by non-striking teachers, subs wiling and able to work and perhaps administrative personnel. In any case if school is open and at least half the student body is in attendance it counts as a school day. And if school is in session athletic contests can be played. Last year about 20 CPS schools were in the IHSA playoffs so you have to figure the number will be similar this fall. This is not a commentary on the quality of education in a school in which union teachers are striking. Only that if school is in session then athletics can be played. And everything the CPS administration seems to be saying suggests school will be open so Play On!

Marist is always solid and anything can happen in one game. But shouldn't Naz with a really good team and a D1 qb be expected to win these kinds of games.

Being Chicago, I'm sure the schools that need half the enrollment to be there so they can play will have that number one way or another.

From the newspapers today...
“Mayor Lori Lightfoot said schools will remain open in the event of a strike, staffed by administrators and non-union personnel. But any days missed because of the work stoppage will not be made up.”

If there is a strike, extracurricular activities and sports would be cancelled.

They would keep them open as safe centers and essentially day care centers for working parents. No teaching would be done and those days would not count as attendance days. At least that’s what I got from reading up on it. Hope it doesn’t come to that.
