Biggest Question facing Monticello this fall?
Can the Sages keep up it's winning ways from the spring season this fall? Monticello and head coach Cully Welter posted a perfect 6-0 record this past spring and was also state ranked in Class 3A. The Sages, who have made the IHSA state playoffs in every season under Cully Welter since 2008 welcome back a nice core of starters on both sides of the football this fall. If the Sages can find some answers on defense this summer expect this team to again be a title threat in the Illini Prairie and beyond this fall.
Impact Player for Monticello
Senior QB Joey Sprinkle. Sprinkle will be a multi-year starter for the Sages this fall. Sprinkle was an all area and all conference quarterback this past spring and also look for Sprinkle to be in line for another big season this fall. Sprinkle (6-foot-3, 190 pounds) is also drawing recruiting attention this summer from various FCVS/D2 programs.
Game to Watch this Fall? Week 4 vs Bloomington Central Catholic
Last spring the Sages closest game came against the Saints in a 20-7 Week 1 win and I fully expect BCC to again be one of the top teams back in the Illini Prairie conference this fall. This Week 4 showdown will also be a good early indicator game for both BCC and Monticello.
