Had the pleasure of watching this last night and Taft's entire offense is they have 4 guys in the backfield and they direct snap it to 1 of them and run it LOL MC had split backs still !

Yes, and most of the time Taft direct snapped to Jim Grabowski, Now a member of the college football hall of fame, ILLINI great and former Green Bay Packer. They also had a great player name I think McFarlin who blew out his knew in the game but later went on to star at Louieville.

It was a great game by a won by a great Carmel Team,( Kelly, Carey, Ruel, Barnes, Penman, Mayrick, Davia).

Had the privledge of being at this game.

It was Al MacFarlane who played at Louisville and wound up for a year on the Bears taxi squad.

I was a sophmore that year and we were all impressed that the Taft team our school was about to play beat CVS and Dick Butkus the week before.

The Caravan got new uniforms for that game -- gold pants, brown jerseys with white UCLA stripes. It ended the old Notre Dame outfits era - thankfully.

Of all things, MacFarlane would up in the 16" Sofftball Hall of Fame.

Hey Carmel men,

Though we are polar opposites when it comes to the SR v MC rivalry, do you guys have copies of any DVDs/videos of any SR v MC games at old Pat Cronin Field? Or any of the 80s matchups (89 specifically or 85) between SR v MC at Gately?

I'll pay top dollar for copies of such. Thank you. And Merry Christmas even though you bleed brown/white -- btw, why did MC get rid of gold in their football unis? I always liked the brown jerseys and gold pants as it was distinctive Mt. Carmel.

Contact the alumni director at MC. I have the 88 game at the old stadium, and I know that there are at least a couple of DVDs of MC-SR games from the 50s.

For me that 1988 6A semi at The Pit was the biggest MC SR game. both 12-0. Last time at Pit. MC had not won there in 20 years roughly. They did not play in regular season. Winner to take on 13-0 EStL back when it was really Flyer. 89 big game ending regular season and they have met in playoffs in 94,00,04,05,13 but '88 was the biggest one at least in my lifetime.

Any possibility of putting some of that action on YouTube? I'd be interested in seeing how footage (as would others). Also, I'm curious if there is footage of games from Cronin Field on YouTube...heard stories about the place, but am curious about how close the crowd was to the field as well as surrounding buildings on campus. Reminds me of the former St. Philip stadium on the West Side where the field was only 12-18 inches outside of the end line or sideline.

No space for fans in the south end zone area, just a ten foot concrete wall.. Noth side space was about 50 feet between end zone and the gym. West side was about 15 feet from sidelines to the stands, that ran the length of the field. Was calked the "annex."On east side very close to field not quite the length of the field. There was a building on east side where they had shop classes, they built an airplane in the shop. Field was mostly dirt. If you want a look at how it was, see the early part of the movie "Rudy." Received numerous "swats" in and about the complex....ahhh, old school Catholic education....memories !!
