Channahon Illinois
Class 4A

New teams in the field: Breese Central (was in 3A), Carterville (was in 3A), Dixon (needed key win over Stillman Valley, got it).

Teams removed from the field: Stillman Valley (needed key win over Dixon, didn’t get it), Julian (costly loss to Vocational), Ridgewood (now in 4A)

Smallest team in the field: Carterville

Largest team in the field: Geneseo

Biggest seed move for the positive: Harrisburg goes from a No. 14 to a No. 7

Biggest drop in seed (for a team still in the field): Elgin St. Edward from a No. 8 to a No. 11

Notes on this field: Bubble watch is fascinating here. Phillips has moved out of what I considered to be the range that would put them in 3A, but still close enough that it can’t be dismissed as a possibility. Geneseo also hovers between 4A/5A. The north bracket has an alarming amount of eight and nine win teams and considerably more depth. But if Rochester loses to Sacred Heart in week nine, the Althoff/Rochester game would come much earlier than it should in the quarters.

Class 3A

Teams removed from the field: Robeson (fluctuation in CPL rankings didn’t help), Erie (tough stretch to close season), Breese Central (now in 4A), Carterville (now in 4A).

Smallest team in the field: New Berlin

Class 2A

New teams in the field: Knoxville (Guess the only way I can explain this is that I got a bad score on them early in the year and its clouded my judgment for awhile), Uplift (this is easily the shakiest of the 256 teams I have in the field and second isn’t close), Mendon Unity (win this week finally sold me), Momence (still not completely certain).

Teams removed from the field: GCMS (now in 1A), Georgetown-Ridge Farm (now in 1A), New Berlin (now in 3A), Central (probably look at a showdown in Week 9 with Momence)

Smallest team in the field: Deer Creek Mackinaw

Largest team in the field: Westville

New teams in the field: GCMS (Was in 2A), GRF (was in 2A), Nokomis (off the points bubble for now), Cumberland (off the points bubble for now), Aquin (barely in on points)

Teams removed from the field: Bureau Valley (points problems), Astoria South Fulton (dropped in conference rankings), Cuba North Fulton (huge points problems), Mount Olive (dropped in conference rankings), Triopia (loss to Mendon Unity limits their chances of getting in).

Largest team in the field: Georgetown Ridge Farm

Biggest seed move for the positive: Greenfield moves from a No. 9 to a No. 6

Biggest drop in seed (for a team still in the field): Orion drops from a No. 5 to a No. 8

Notes on this field: Here’s the deal. Many of the teams with points problems got off the bubble this week with field shifts. If the field shifts with more teams fighting their way into the field with mild upsets, many of the teams removed come from 1A. So this field is the one that will likely shift the most prior to pairings night.
