Getting to crunch time. A lot of 2-2 teams looking to get that 3rd win and make their playoff chances look a lot better.
Galesburg (1-3) @ Geneseo (2-2): Last year Geneseo won 43-3. Both of these teams have dropped two straight games and are looking to get things turned around. Geneseo has started strong in the first half of it’s games, but falls apart after the break. Galesburg since it’s week 2 win has looked close to non-competitive against Morrison and Sterling. I think Geneseo gets it’s second half woes figured out and everyone in Galesburg starts waiting for basketball season.
Prediction: Geneseo by running clock.
Moline (2-2) @ Rock Island (0-4): Last year Moline won 28-10. Two teams coming off of tough losses, rivalry game, and homecoming? Everything you love about high school football. Moline has looked up and down this season but they feature a “punch you over and over” running attack. Rocky has been the victim of a tough schedule and inconsistent play. On paper, it looks like Moline should run away with this one, but throw the records out as I think Rocky plays very inspired football and keeps it close. Sadly it will be just a moral victory.
Prediction: Moline by 6.
United Township (2-2) @ Quincy (4-0): Last season Quincy won 63-27. UT is coming off of a very good win over Geneseo last week and looks like one of their more solid teams in recent history. UT is a missed FG and a blocked PAT away from sitting at 4-0 right now. Quincy is on a whole other level though as no one has played them close this season. As solid as UT’s defense has been, Quincy probably still throws for 300+ yards and 4+ touchdowns.
Prediction: Quincy by 4 touchdowns.
Sterling (2-2) @ Beloit Turner (2-3): It’s Sterling’s turn this week to play an out of state opponent as they jump right across the border to Wisconsin. Sterling looked like a it’s old self last week as the defense was lights out and the offense was able to grind down Galesburg. Don’t know too much about Turner, but they seem like a solid team who’s three losses have been close affairs. If Sterling get’s off the bus, I think they can out athlete Turner.
Prediction: Sterling by 2 touchdowns.
