This is the perfect punishment for jerk parents, let them see how easy it is.

You seriously need to get with the times. These younger generations know that they do not need to tolerate this behavior. Their level of sensitivity is not going to change. Fans, coaches and players continuing to be allowed to berate officials in only going to lead to less and less officials. Call them soft, call them weak but facts show that they are very different from baby boomers so people will need to adapt. As someone who umps baseball, I like this. BUT, I still think we has a profession need to develop thicker skin. For parents that get confrontational or hint towards violence, definitely need to be punished. But you are NEVER, I repeat- never- going to eliminate fans and parents complaining loudly. It has happened for decades and will always continue to do so. Especially in baseball with bang-bang plays, always going to have knee jerk reactions and fans being vocal. You have to develop thick skin and ignore it.
Personally, I'm able to do so. But to think we are going to, or we should be able to, live in a eutopia society where everyone is silent for all calls at a sporting event is insane. I hope other umpires learn to ignore it. Step in when you feel it is crossing the line and could lead to something worse...yes absolutely. But for just parents/fans ragging on you...in one ear out the other and move on.
I'm pushing 50, and between watching all my daughters high school softball games right now, and coaching them during the summer, I would guess 75%? of the umps are older than me. The people that think refs/umps should just "deal with it", will be the same ones wondering why they are playing their varsity football game on Thursday. You seriously need to get with the times. I was blessed as a young umpire to be taught how important conflict resolution is. 15 years later and I have had very little issues. A sense of humor, communication skills and the ability to understand none of what is said is personal goes a long way as an umpire. As someone who umps baseball, I like this. Young umpires need to be taught these same skills and they will do well and enjoy the games.
