Now that the other exciting South Side playoff game is over, I can post the notes. Really cool to see all the players from the South Side Chicago Area that a lot of kids we’ve seen since they were youngsters having great seasons and leaving it all on the field. And the sacrifices made by the parents that allows us fans these types of weekends.

Hononegah brought a great group of fans and players that had the Mustangs looking for answers, taking a 10-7 halftime lead.

The Mustangs answered the call with just an incredible effort by the offense and defense.

QB Touchdown Tommy Ulatowski’s second half was big time. Playing over a handful of penalties that stunted St. Rita drives in the first half and second half by him just keep making play after play. With Hononegah D staying disciplined and keyed on the backs, Tommy U kept it and outran the D for a 70 yard score.

KB, remember him?, just uncoverable in space. Cross, fly, post? Yeah, it was there and once those were hit, the tide turned. Also big catches by Flynn, BJ Hall, EJ Nwagwu and K9, Kyle Clayton, forced the Indians to cover a lot of space allowing the Soph RBs Ethan Middleton and DJ Stewart to start pounding out 1st downs and burning clock. After overcoming some penalties and a tough Hononegah front, the OLine regained their push led by some standout blocks by Big Val and junior OT Colin Gerger.

Defensively, the Mustangs seemed pretty on point all game. Couple nice chunk plays on screens and a pretty tough Indian QB that took a lot of hits all game but kept leading his team for a handful of promising drives. DL Giuseppe Ursetta with some huge momentum-changing plays. DBs Johnny Schmitt and Liam Bartos with huge interceptions, Jake Poselli and Pat Farrell took care of the edges while the Kingsbury’s controlled the middle of the field in the second half.

High School football in November is so special. Never, ever take it for granted. Thank you Mustangs and Indians for a well-fought game.

Nice take. From watching Prospect game right now the SR defense needs to be on point, especially against the pass & hope the run game is on fire

Rock,

From what I saw, RH was a very big and physical team? I thought their defense held Rita in check regarding the running game when Tommy was not keeping the ball and running?

And that's why teams must be a threat with the passing game. I felt if Rita just passed on every down, there was potential to score a TD.

I also think RH is bigger than either Algonquin Jacobs and Mt. Prospect Prospect.

Score zone shows Rita hosting next week!!

Did you get a good look at KB’s one handed TD grab?
Yep, in warmups he caught a half of dozen balls that way also`. With last year covid shorten season and with him being hurt basically the whole regular season he got kind of cheated out of most of his high school experience. I know that Doc and I feel cheated.

Favorite penalty was ref throwing the flag, counting the number of SR players and realizing there was not 12 men on the field then calling illegal motion, which didn’t happen.

I get your point but the officiating has taken a beating all over the place on this board these playoffs and I’m not going to pile on.

To move on in playoff football, you have to withstand the other teams’ best punches and play over and through whatever is called on the field.

I was proud that St. Rita kept their poise facing the long downs and distances by hitting big play after big play. And the defense getting big stops when if all they could do was punt and flip the field due to stunted drives.

I think biggest stop they got was when it was 16-10 and Hononegah got to the Rita 20 or 25. That was the turning point to me
