Major here meaning teams who could go from a losing record or a .500 caliber program to a potential state contender

A few teams come to mind in my mind....

Kenwood- The Broncos welcome back some real talent including 4 star ranked DE Marquise Lightfoot and are also adding some big names via transfer including former Bolingbrook WR IMarion Stewart. If the Broncos can reload a bit upfront on the offensive line they have a ton of skills.

Downers Grove North- We saw how the Trojans played a ton of close games and ended up 6-3 then beat Lincoln Park before getting eliminated by Mount Carmel in a close game. Lots of talent back for 2023 and can the Silver fall back a little bit at the top create an opening for DGN in 2023?

Lockport- Finished the season at 5-4 then lost in 8A round 1 to GB West....the Porters still have a ton of talent in the program and welcome back several returning starters from the 2022 season.

Homewood Floosmoor- The Vikings also have a ton of skills and talent back in 2023 and this is a program that is always capable of big things at times.

Who else should be listed here? Post em now.

Dang, I sure hope CG can get back on the other side of 3-6. That’s like the dark years of when I played there LOL.

Please keep quiet on the Porters. I want people to think 2 years ago was a fluke. GO PORTERS!

I'm looking at West Suburban Silver teams. They seem to be on an overall athletics upswing.

It looks like they missed playoffs from 82-86, 89-91 & 00-03
Yep, I was in the 82-86 period. The program took off in the late 80’s with HOF coach Bruce Kay and it’s been consistent with Seaburg since 2012.

Maybe Stagg could squeeze out 5+ wins? Opponents in their first 3 games went 1-26 last season. They avoid LWE and 'Brook in their 2 mandatory cross-overs with the larger enrollment Blue Division, drawing Sandburg and H-F instead. Their league games are Andrew, Bradley, LWC and LWW. If the Stagg senior QB returns for his 3rd season as a starter, maybe they could have a year?

There is more to success than high enrollment, but yes, in the long haul, those two, should be able to do something. That being said, how long before those two and Huntley our grow the FVC? Because the District 155 schools, CLS, CLC, PR and CG, are going in the opposite direction. Wouldn't hate to see the consolidation of 155 schools. especially PR and CG, since some Cary kids go to PR.

Yeah we know, Morton has been discussed

Brosman just jumped ship to Plainfield South
You guys know these kids and schools I don’t , I am assuming these kids jumping ship/transferring are leaving a private school heading to a public school or vice versa. You can’t transfer from a public school to a public school unless you move. Or has the rules changed?

Head coach.

The Deerfield and Highland Park kids used to transfer without moving... maybe that's changed?

I’d love to say Argo. They had a bunch of talent yet only finished 5-5.They had pretty good lower level teams last year but that don’t mean squat.

Central needs that new school that was just voted down, but the families are in the minority to older childless taxpayers for the large part still. That said it's going to be tough to raise taxes in Western Kane for some time still.

I heard rumblings a coach or two from local private school maybe joining their staff. Not sure how true it is. Part of Argos issue is, no real youth program for them to maintain year in and year out.
They had the Summit Rebels but they disbanded. Some of the coaches told me the Private schools were taking all their players & they were tired of it.Years ago the best thing I heard about the problems at Argo was this.Argo had a stud transfer to Richards. He told people he learned more at Richards in 2 weeks than he did in 3 years at Argo

What did Innis do to you to cause your constant Argo bashing over the course of the past 20 years on this site?

Really wondering if this might be the year H-F returns to its 10-wins-per-season level after going 10-9 over the past 2 years. In their 4 losses from 2022, an average of 44 points were surrendered per game. Maybe some of that "skills and talent" might be needed on the defensive side of the ball.

They had a box for the coaching staff. One of the players grandmothers came & she was struggling & dropped her cane. While others laughed I went & helped her up the stands & cut back thru the coaching box.A old friend of mine spotted me & I talked to him for a few mins.Innis came up & asked me if I was a coach & I explained to him why I was standing there briefly. He laid into me & said I’m not a coach & shouldn’t be standing there & was very rude. The parents took up for me including the grandmother.I finally had enough & said look man if I were the Coach with the talent you have(Bobby Pettis) & have had all these years I’d be making deep runs in the playoffs instead you go 3-6 or 4-5 & lose to teams like Oak Lawn & St.Joe’s each year.I said nobody wants to Coach here so that’s why you’ve been here all these years. He sent the Summit cops on me & they thought it was funny so I had to go to the visitors side.Mr.Phil the AD who was there & others were very good to me but that run all over me.A lot of the guys who played for him in the past called him Ernest after that goofy 80’s or 90’s character

I avoided him on my visits up but he seen me 1 time a few years later & tried to tell me I was banned then when the AD talked to him he said don’t let me catch you in the box.I said that’ll be the only chance you’ll have to win & ofc they blew it to Oak Lawn that day & cost them the playoffs.I didn’t care for him or some of his assistants but the lower level coaches there & players & parents all liked me.

Happy Easter ! Actually it seems more like Festivus when we air out our grievances
