This will be only the second meeting between the Ramblers and Corsairs — and the first since the 1999 Prep Bowl playoffs. Loyola finished the season at 5-4 and Carmel at 4-5, neither making the IHSA playoffs. Ramblers won 22-21 in overtime - behind a 4th down score and 2-point conversion by the late, great fullback Jon Schwabe.

I am not upset that MC did not have to return the favor and play there this season. Only time MC did play up there it was a barnburner in '97; 49-34.

Really wish they did play this season. Would probably be a good game.

Hoping the next iteration of CCL/ESCC divisions includes the CCL/ESCC Brown. The three Carmelite schools plus I guess you need a fourth. Fenwick's black is close enough to brown I suppose.

My memory is thinking they played each other in Mundelein around 2000? Any insight if CCHS is ready for another deep run in the playoffs? Suppose the Loyola game may be an indication.

Dean, I love barnburners (that we win) and are within easy driving distance. I was looking forward to going back there.

With the new CCL/ESCC realignment this year how did Carmel not get a beefed up conference schedule? That’s a really good draw for a team that didn’t need one.

I haven't seen their schedule, but playing MC last year and LA this year, well it can't get much tougher than that.

I was at that game. Every time CoM would get within 10 points or so MC would respond. Still it was exciting, and probably the first CoM team that belonged on the same field with MC.

Wouldn't be surprised to see CoM give the Ramblers a game. Last year, CC went 10-2, losing only to MC and Nazareth. They played MC close for the first three quarters, intercepting Elliott once. This year, the Corsairs have a soph quarterback who already has an offer from Michigan. Head coach Jason McKie is a former Bear, as is their offensive line coach, the great Olin Kreutz.

Was he not the QB last year?

Last year Johnny Weber was their main QB, although Trae Taylor, then a freshman, saw a lot of playing time. The Corsairs clocked three or four teams. Taylor's videos on MaxPreps are worth looking at.

Andy Bitto’s second year as HC, and when the PB playoffs began in ‘99 he had Frosh/Soph level kids all over the field, laying the foundation for their most successful run of football ever (‘01/‘02/‘03), going 38-3, winning the PB and a 6A Championship.

A week (8) close loss vs. Leo kept the Corsairs on the outside looking-in. They held the tie-breaker in conference (beat DLS head-to-head), and would have been a playoff qualifier in ‘99.

Even had some success in ‘00, finishing 9-5 overall, and losing a tough 1st round playoff opener in an electric game @ Libertyville (28-21 loss).

Looking forward to the match-up with LA.
None better than the Ramblers program, IMO.

After watching LA carve up probably the best public school D in the state, I don't see CCHS hanging with LA. JMO of course.

Upon further research, these two teams also played in the Prep Bowl playoffs in 2000 with the Corsairs winning 21-20 after a blocked field goal attempt in the final seconds. Corsairs also won the opener in 2002 behind Mark Venegoni in 2002 24-6.

I’ve seen all the CCHS vs. LA games to date. All have been good ones. Friday’s game could be ugly!

2002 start to the season was impressive, to say the least.

Beat LA @ home, went to Hanson Stadium and defeated St. Pat’s under the orange lights, and the following week (wk3), made an appearance at Gately Stadium to take on the Caravan. Pulled off the upset with a key punt return for a TD, a blocked field goal, and an INT to end the game.

Saturday evening game. Bitto had the boys playing well in all phases. Great win, great time for the Corsairs.

Those days of crazy success are few and far between now. Sucks.

Option football. But you guys had enough of that and pushed Andy out. Now here you are.

‘Here you are’?

You don’t know me or Carmel, so GFY.

CCHS has had recent success, just not crazy success. Much more than SE and that pathetic conference you’re in.

SE has nothing to do with this. They can't recruit. You could, you're just not good at it. Andy was.

This went from LA vs. CoM, to option football,
to AB, to recruiting?

If you’re so sure Andy could recruit, let me introduce you to one of the biggest AB ‘misses’ ever…

Do you know the last name Lees and the success R. Lees had as the youngest of several brothers who attended CCHS and played ball there, but he chose their rival?

R. Lees heading to LHS was the direct result of AB and his inability to change.

And I’d say McKie is already > AB at recruiting top players. Case in point TT, their current QB.

Clueless.

31-10 Ramblers. 6 min left in third. Soph QB making some very nice throws, including in red zone. Future bright at QB for LA.

Is Fitzgerald hurt???

Edited because Corey said I did a big no no. (Does he post that to a non-LA poster?) You can read Mike O’Brien in Sun-Times last week to get quotes from Fitz himself. I have no idea what’s going on. He’s missed games, played halves of games, is being used differently. The soph is playing a lot.

We can argue all day but the facts are the AB won big games. McKie's recruiting has been 'better' but the wins are against inferior opponents.

80sRambler had nothing to do with you being a LA fan. I totally respect the Ramblers. Just wanted you to know. Also I hope they play each other in the playoffs or finals. East is looking to beat you guys this year. 😂 Good luck on the rest of your season. 👍
